Shifter bouncing up and down?

I have an 86 firebird 305, carburated. When i give it alot of gas the shifter will bounce up and down quite a bit and it will also lose power in sequence with the shifter bouncing. The power loss could be a part of another problem but im trying to figure out why its doint this. It also bounces over bumps to. It is manual transmission.

Re: Shifter bouncing up and down?

when my first trans mount went, I still had the automatic. That thing was banging around like it was trying to escape.
Not a hard repair.

Re: Shifter bouncing up and down?

It is four bolts and one nut on the brace and two bolts on the trans. Really simple to change with a ratchet and a jack to brace the trans.

Re: Shifter bouncing up and down?

Labour doesn't cost anything.

The part is around $12 for a stock one, just like the one you got now that broke, or maybe $20ish for one that won't do that again the first time you let out the clutch ... a little .... too..... ,,, .... ,, ............ enthusiastically.

Before you make a decision about mount types, you might pursue the following link:

^^ Good read. I Have my ES poly mounts (engine and xmsn) under my sb400/700r4 for 10 years now with no problems. With both a 2.73 and 3.23 posi and sticky 275's. I don't remember if I used the "preload" plate referenced in the article above. I never had any vibration issues with a steel or aluminum drive shaft. (My car is lowered about an inch with an adjustable torque arm though, so I don't have any driveline geometry issues.)
One caveat, I will never be able to shock the driveline with the worlds worst TCI 700r4 like you can by side-stepping the clutch.
