What is this piece for?

I bought an 86 Iroc to build. The previous owner said that I had to connect a piece of wire to two of the wires on this piece to start the car. Thats lead me to believe that this should be plugged in somewhere. However after looking through an 87 (V6) Camaro and an 87 Firebird and they aren't plugged in to anything. If someone could help me by telling me what this is for and where it goes, that'd be appreciated.

TL;DR piece seems to need to be plugged in to start Iroc, but not a different camaro or firebird. What is it for?

That connects to your shifter (auto). It has the rev/nss/str solenoind circuits. The big yllw/ppl are for the starter solenoid.Every automatic would have that.
Grn/bl are rev, Org/blk are nss.

My Iroc is a 5 speed, so would I just jump the big yellow and purple wires? Or is there a proper way to do it?

The proper way to do it is to connect the large yellow and purple wire to a clutch safety switch trigger to your clutch pedal.

Re: What is this piece for?

You may also not have rev lights, since that circuit is also on that connector.

Good catch. Those are the blue and green wires - run to the switch on the passenger's side of the manual trans.

If they don't work I'll be sure to check that. Thanks for the heads up
