Re: Steering Wheel Column - Remove Sleeve

I think you pretty much need to drop & remove the column, then pull the sleeve out from behind.Unless you disassemble the front half of the tilt column.Which is probably more work/hassle.

Re: Steering Wheel Column - Remove Sleeve

You actually don't have to drop the column. Although removing it and working on it on a bench would be easier. That cover piece you are pointing to is held on with the same 4 bolts that hold the lower portion of the tilt assembly to the column. To get at them you'll have to remove the pivot pins and pull that entire upper tilt assembly off. It's a royal pain in the A$$. Once all that and those 4 bolts are removed it will slide off the column in the direction of the steering wheel.

The million dollar question is, why do you want to take that off? I just did a column rebuild and never saw any reason to remove that piece.

Thanks for answering 84 1LE and greenyone!

I am dealing with a peculiar problem. Since this thread was to answer how to remove the sleeve, i think it should be saved as that. I will post my main problem on another thread, i will send you a PM.
