Not the usual shift **** question...
So lots of threads about how to remove shift *****. I have sort of the opposite problem - how to get it on correctly???
1985 IROC with auto. I can get the **** on, install c-clip, put button back on, but the problem is the **** slides down the post. Is there supposed to be another clip on the bottom side or something to hold it up? Wondering if the inside of the **** originally had a lip or key that would keep it from sliding down that has perhaps worn out? Confused.
I didn't take it off originally so I don't have the experience of uninstalling it to draw on. PO had a B&M shifter on it when I got it, and I am returning it to stock.
Any ideas will be appreciated! Pics even better! Thanks all!

The shift ball is suppose to have either 1 or 2 small tabs inside to keep it up on the shift lever. If the tabs are not there it will slide down as you already know.

Funny, in my younger years, I thought that's how they were supposed to be as every one that I had seen had broken tabs and was sitting on the shift plate. Probably one of the reasons they changed the **** a few years later.
