T-Top roof sealant

Hi, I fitted new T-Roof seals last summer on the passenger side, planning to do the driver side this summer, however I used the recommended 3M black sealant in the tube and have found its all dry and cracked and looks like it is not doing a very good job of sealing between the strip and the roof anymore. Has this happened to everyone who's replaced the seals and is it ok or do I need to go over it with something else like silicone? I'm concerned water will get into the cracks in the sealant and sit between the rubber seal and the roof and rot away.

Re: T-Top roof sealant

I used 3M weatherstrip sealant, but it wasn't black. Hmm? ....regardless, silicone would work, however I can tell you from experience, it is a NIGHTMARE to remove if you ever have to do the job again. I did seals bout 10/15 years ago, and just did 'em again when I removed the old ones for paint. I thought the sealant was to seal out water, and didn't spare any. I gooped it in there! My friend and painter laughed and said the weatherstripping holds out the water and the sealant basically holds it in place.
