Gauges

I bought a 86 Z28 and the guy before me put in external gauges tach, oil, and temp. I am trying to put everything back to factor settings to restore the car. My question is it looks like he spliced wires from the distributor to the tach also put in a new oil sensors line in the side of the block. Is there a simple way of redoing all this or am I going to have to retrace every wire and try and figure out where everything is suppose to go?

Re: Gauges

Does the factory tach still work? If so, just remove the aftermarket tach. If not...you'll need to find the wire from the factory tach. It's probably close to wherever he spliced the new tach into the coil. Could be underhood....could be underdash somewhere. Of course I can't know for sure how the previous guy did it. As for temp and oil, in my experience, those gauges typically come with their own sending unit, and do not tap into existing gauges. They should be able to be removed without affecting old gauges.

I bought a new gauge cluster for the car. The guy ran the temp wire to the side of the block and looks like he cut and crimped the tach wire from the distributor to the aftermarket tach on the dash

Re: Gauges

A common problem. You will need the factory sensors (autozone) and you can wire back to the big bulkhead connector.

You can get a wiring diagram here. My previous owner did the same. I just got the sensor found the wires he cut and connected them.
