Hi guys
Am thinking of dismantling my GTA drivers seat as it squeaks like crazy, has broken rails and could do from new foam so I was searching for new fabric and found this on rockauto https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...177&cc=1251481
Does anyone has any experience using them? The leather ones on eBay are way too expensive and Fabric doesn't bother me. I might be able to re upholster only the front seats if the color is not too different. I am assuming sandstone is the correct one for a tan 88 interior.
I haven't bought them, so take this with a grain of salt... The aftermarket upholstery that most places carry generally aren't the original fabric. The color names and fabric names they use aren't related in any way to what GM used. They're close enough that they won't look terribly out of place to the untrained eye, but if you don't do all the seats, and the door panels with the same stuff, it's probably going to stand out that it doesn't match.
GTA seats are generally Pallex or Metrix cloth. Pallex is sort of a diamond pattern, Metrix is more of a subtle squiggly horizontal line pattern. FWIW.
I have that same material, but in the the 89 camaro upholstery version.
As for whether or not there worth it, it's hard to say, and really depends on your point of view. I've won many trophies at car shows with 'em, but also get many comments from people at shows saying they can tell it's not original. The quality and fit of the covers overall are good, but the material itself has a cheap look to it in my opinion.
Here are mine......and yeah....they DO look good. ....but they're nowhere near the quality of original. They almost look.....fuzzy, if that makes sense.
They are very nice actually would be very happy with that outcome.
Would be good to see some Ultima seats as they are probably more challenging to get right.

Yeah, I almost feel bad complaining. Again, it's not the overall quality or fit that's bad...it's the actual fabric. And they DO look nice.....but when you're parked next to a few other nice thirdgens at a show or cruise in, and THEY have original seats, you CAN tell the difference.
