Rear hatch release

Hey guys just putting the finishing touches on my sub woofer box. I have a stupid question, my sub box is mounted right behind my back seat giving me no access to rear hatch area from inside of the car. If my motor or latch gives out, will I all ways be able to open the hatch with the key or will it hold it shut.

Also yesterday while I was checking for clearance the hatch pulled down but still made a few noises afterwards. The latch stopped in the downward position and only came back up after moving the little lever at top of latch. Should I be concerned. I only have 1/2" clearance from the back corner of my sub box to the rear glass so i am screwing it down to the car so I have no movement at all

Thanks this is my first Thrid gen and dont know all the tricks yet

Re: Rear hatch release

I guess it probably depends on what part of your hatch motor breaks. When mine broke, it was the giant plastic threaded nut inside, which meant I couldn't close my hatch. Ended up having to tie a piece of rope around the latch from the inside to keep it closed til my new part came.

The hatch motor should move back up automatically after the hatch pops up. If it doesn't, then it sounds like you have a problem. The only times I've experienced that was when I had the battery disconnected, and interrupted the correct movement cycle by manually unlocking the hatch with the key with no power going to the motor.

Re: Rear hatch release

Just so I'm clear. Your concern is that if you can't open the hatch, you won't be able to access the pulldown motor, since your sub is essentially stuck back there, right? -The key should always release the hatch. If the hatch motor unit is damaged, it may potentially keep you from closing the hatch, but we ALL face that issue. Worst case is that you could always drill out the lock from the outside and release it that way. Worst case.

Re: Rear hatch release

Thanks guys that makes me fell better . At the end of the day as long as I can get into the hatch with the key I am good. Also just remembered I did have the battery negative disconnected for a while may be that's why it was making noises. It makes a sound like it's adjusting and finding the proper spot to stop. It only did it once
