New console cover won’t latch
New console cover won’t latch
Just got a replacement console cover for my ‘82 TA and it will not latch closed. Is this a common issue? The console itself has had no modifications to the rectangular hole.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue with an original GM replacement. This is the second console I have had in the car with the same issue. It is just not made properly.

Is this the Hawk's replacement? I have one in my 82 T/A and I had to remove the little round rubber bumper from the console (near the latch) and it latches fine, but it would not until I did this. Don't know if that will help you or not.

I thought about cutting that plastic nub off, but would prefer not to. Is this issue specific to Hawk's? If so, should I go with another brand? Yes, I have a Hawk's one. Thanks

Re: New console cover won’t latch
It's not plastic and nothing you have to cut. It's just a small piece of rubber that pulls out of the factory console. It's what the original lid rested against in the corner. I think Hawk's is the only company to reproduce these lids. Your only other option is NOS or used as far as I know. The latching problem was the only issue I had, but when I removed the rubber bumper, that was solved for me. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job on these. The only thing they got wrong was putting texture on the surface of the release button, that should be smooth. I can live with that though to have a brand new lid!
