Is the console lid supposed to stay up on its own?

Is it?

I just read a description somewhere of someone saying theirs did, in 12 years of owning my car, mine never has...it never crossed my mind that it's supposed to?

Mine stays up...for some odd reason . But, the arm that's supposed to keep it from opening too much always pops out. I need a new console cover anyway

Cool, I had no idea they were supposed to. How far do they open? Mine probably opens about 70 degrees, always felt like it should've opened closer to 90.

Are the arm and spring part of the lower console?

The arm/hinge is part of the lid. No spring on mine.

EDIT: The Parts & Illustration Cat. shows a spring.

Re: Is the console lid supposed to stay up on its own?

Alright thanks, didn't think I remembered seeing a spring on the lids I've seen for sale, but being part of the console didn't seem right either.

Cool, thanks. Amazing what you learn about your car sometimes even after 12 years.

EDIT: Alright, as long as the spring is part of the lid assembly, no worries.

Mine broke a while ago. Can't find a replacement. The arm is still there and the spring but is torn from the lid.

Mine used to have some resistance raising and lowering before it broke.

Here's what I found, granted it's a bird thread but the spring is the same I guess:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...id-return.html

Looks like a hassle to take the whole console out just to clip a little spring into a metal clip...ugh. Will have to be done though.

yeah, thats it. My old console blew apart and i remember that spring. It was easier to just get a new NOS console. I need one for my 92 for that matter, its broken.

Know where a person could just get a new NOS console?

Yep. I took a peek and there is indeed a spring there, a working one I might add. I replaced the lid long ago, but I certainly don't recall fiddling with a spring. Ahhh, old age, ain't it sweet.

I got a lid from the junkyard free, installed it with no arm or spring, you have to be careful with it as to not break it, but it stays up by itself because when fully opened it will rest slightly past 90*
