So I have a 1987 Trans Am, I want to get racing Seats for it. Do you have any recommendations on what would be a good budget but still decent quality seat?
I am also looking into racing seats, brackets and adapters. Ive looked at some from Jegs and Summit Racing, as well as on Ebay. I found this thread while searching for more information. If anyone has any input it seems there are those interested.
Best thing is to do your own research, websites, ebay, and don't rush into anything. A lot of brands, a few legitimate, most knock-offs. And each will have a dozen models/styles or more, upholsteries, etc. Expensive to inexpensive. Could take months to find what you want/like. And few to no place to go to try them on for size, so be conscious of their dimensions. Most will be a tight fit, but that's the idea.
Believe it or not, Fry's Electronics sells racing seat chairs, on the sales floor, and some are pretty realistic. A good way to experience what it might feel like to sit in.
Bride, Recaro, Corbeau and Sparco are legitimate brands that will cost more than most. Braum, Cypher, NRG, and many other "generic" brands on ebay, with moderate to low prices.
Be sure to look into seat brackets and sliders, too. Not likely you'll be able to adapt your factory sliders to racing seats, at least, not easily. A lot of brackets are somewhat generic, designed for a "universal" fit in many vehicles, which means they might not be ideal in 3rdgens. So if a "manufacturer" offers a bracket/slider for its seat, and it fits a 3rdgen(that's important), probably a good idea to get it. Correct-fitting(into the car), good quality brackets and sliders won't be inexpensive.
So there's a lot to look at when shopping for aftermarket seats, which is why it's best to do your own research.
Hey, I purchased some mounts from ebay. They did come in a pair and left / right are different. They bolted straight onto the existing mounting points and come with their own railings.
X2 RACING SEAT BASE MOUNT BRACKETS ADAPTER LEFT+RIGHT FOR 82-92 PONTIAC FIREBIRD
Sorry, not the best photos. They were for reference when I was working on the interior when it was dark.
I believe what I have actually mount at a very similar height as the original seats. I'm 5'6 and don't have issues. Maybe lean the seat backwards just a tad.

I tried searching for these with no results on eBay. Do you have a part number?

The first link is what I have. And correction to my above comment, the seats come with their own railing, not the brackets. I should also note that I drive this car from the right hand side not the left (which is shown in the photos). The brackets are still different for each side.

HAWKS has Cobreau seats and they offer a direct fit bracket.
If you plan on actually using the seats for track action, get seats that have a 5th hole for the submarine belt.
That's exactly what I'm planning. I even found some D.O.T. legal 5-pt seatbelts, so I won't need to have 2 sets of seatbelts cluttering up the car! Thanks for looking out!

I know this sounds dumb but a lot of sanctioning bodies won’t let you race with seats that can recline, so are they really racing seats?
Here are some brackets for third and fourth gen Camaros that a kirkey “racing seat” can be used with
