Felted Interior Trim Pieces

Hey everyone! Currently in the process of a whole bunch of onterior work and the next thing I wanted to tackle were the trim piecea on the sides of the front seats. They are starting to get ratty looking. Has anyone tried restoring these? It looks like the felt like material was sprayed on. When you look at the back there are fibers in inconsistent patterns. Thanks

I found a website once before, not sure where, that described the process for doing this. There is fiber powder that got sprinkled over an adhesive that was sprayed on the plastics. I'll see if I can find it. I didn't see ut in my bookmarks, but I know I kept that.

That would be great, I belive the process is called flocking. My second issue would be finding a close enough colour match not sure where to find this kinda stuff.

I saw Lee Valley has some packs but only one red colour and it looks too bright imo

I just found that it is called flocking. You can see videos online. Good luck.

Good luck finding someone to flock it in the correct shade/color. Hard to tell from a computer monitor but your piece looks like my 1985 russet color, which never was very popular and now quite hard to find. My flocking is pretty badly worn, and when it gets to a point that it bugs me too much I'll probably have to figure something else out.

I was thinking of attempting the flocking myself if i can find a red that comes close enough. New carept in the car but the seat are a little faded. So anything inbetween the two would work for now. The hunt begins for the flock

I figured in the meantime id just peel the old flocking off. The other pieces are pretty rough but the flocking seems to lift pretty easy. Theres just a normal textured trim piece under the flock with the same grain as the rest of the vehicle, so the good thing is it wouldnt look rough or bad at all just not flocked.
