89 Camaro Speedometer (electric or mechanical?)

My 89 camaro body is burried in the garage. It came with a 5 speed manual v6 according to the vin. Can anyone tell me if the 89 gauge is electric or mechanical? When i picked up the car it never had an engine or trans. I am planning an LS1 implant with an electronic controlled trans. Not sure what i am going to do if this is a cable drive speedo.
