I'm looking for a how to video or article with pictures on how to recover the seats in my 89 Camaro Convertible I bought leather seat covers and new foam, but when I pulled the seats out I noticed the seat tracks & what i can see of the seat frames on the front buckets have some surface rust it looks like gm never painted or powdercoated them and the used one's i see online for sale look exactly the same...
So I'd like to bust the seats down and get all the metal work powdercoated like it should have been from gm...
It seems like it'll be less hassel for me to tear down the seats & get the metal work powdercoated because the upholstry shops here don't do that, so I'd have extra leg work to do running back & forth between the powdercoater & upholstry shop...
Also since I'm just replacing the foam & seat covers It also appears it'll save me a lot of money just doing everything but the powdercoating myself...
I've only put bench seat covers on pickup trucks before, the ones that just go over the stock ones, so it's different than what I'm looking at with these Convertible 3rd Gen Camaro Bucket Seats and back seats.
So can someone point me in the direction of a how to r&r video or article with pictures & such?
I don't want to jack up the new leather & foam I bought.
The Upholster above has the BEST, IMO, video of 3RD Gen Vert top R&R. Above is his seat video, which I have not viewed.
thanks for the link, he does have a great series of 3rd gen interior related videos, but two pieces of info i was looking for he kind of glossed over...
1. How to use Hog Ring Pliers to remove & replace seat covers. I've never used hog ring pliers before & he uses 3 different hog ring pliers just on the front bucket seats and speeds the camera through their use in many cases.
2. I'm guessing Since he did not replace the seat foam as I intend to, he did not remove the surface rusted seat frame to get powdercoated like I intend to... his seat tracks & seat frame are rusted just like mine & every other 3rd gen i've seen... it seems like a crying shame to not powdercoat them.
I cut the hog rings with Diagonal Cutting Pliers (DYKES ). and pull them out with same, or needle nose pliers.
I would not powder coat them, since it might interfere with the track operation. IMO. I'd prime and paint. Maybe scrape off loose rust, rusty metal primer, paint.

I took my tracks apart when I recover my seats.
I used spray paint and greased the track bearings after I cleaned everything
It's not necessary to powder coat them. They lasted for 30 years without any paint
I used needle nose pliers (2) as well when i redid my seats, one to hold the hog ring, the other to spread it. I only used the hog ring pliers to install the new rings.
I forgot to mention...installation of H rings is easy, buy you must buy H ring pliers. You put the ring in the plies and push the ring where it needs to go, squeeze the ring shut.
