Do t-tops need to come off (an 87 T/A) to replace sagging headliner?

My glass t-tops have either never been off my 87 T/A or they have not been removed once in the past 30 years. I currently have no leakage issues. My original headliner is beginning to sag in the rear and it ready for replacement. Can an 87 t-top headliner be replaced without taking the t-tops off? To compound the issue I also have the optional overhead console which needs to be removed for other reasons (flashlight battery leaked and I need to clean out the resulting small amount of corrosion). Same question. Can that overhead console be removed with the t-tops remaining in place?

I'd love to take the tops off, but I do not want the leaks, squeaks and rattles ultimately that come with taking those tops on and off. Thanks in advance!

I think it would make it easier to work around imo.

No. There's nothing that I can think of that would require the tops to be removed for the headliner repairs.

the A and C pillar trim must be removed in order to pull out the headliner (in one piece). don't know how that could be done without pulling the t-tops. attachment screws for both are under there.

the overhead console can be slid back from the mounting studs once a couple of screws are removed.

Got a few close ups over here with the T-Tops off. Don't recall if the front pillar thing that holds the t-top on comes off. If it makes you feel any better, I take mine off everytime I drive it. always have. no leaks, at least when I wash the car. It doesn't get driven in rain. and T-tops are always off when driving, a helluva lot more fun that way! https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ml#post6327405

yep

first pic in post #5 clearly shows the A pillar trim and the top screw that mounts it, which would be obscured were the t-tops installed.

Good call out. I was going from memory and obviously, age is catching up with me. naf is correct. The A and B pillar trim do hold the headliner and need to be removed.

my memory was recently refreshed. I pulled the headliner and trim out of my pontiac last weekend to start some rust repair in the t-top channels....
