so whats the trick to get the material aroiund the curves of the ttops, im redoing mine, and wa slooking , and hmm that cant be easy to stretch flat fabric around that

who has done what to accomplish this ?

Im looking for the same answear, the fabric around the t-tops is torn, yellow padding and chips are falling out all over the place

 

removing the headliner from the car and cleaning it and all is easy cake, but im just worried about actual fitment of fabric, getting it to conform to the shape and curves of the board, especially around the T tops openings. hmmm...

Throw it in the trash and buy an abs one???







I have tried several times and never did get it, I have an ABS one on order right now.

 

I bought an ABS on fro $150 plus shipping, and I love it cuase it was already covers, and it won't fall apart like the fiberglass ones

 

well that ruins the whole point of doing this ourselves, as we are trying to not spend 150 or more to repair just the ceiling, repairing and stiffening up the board is no biggie, just covering it is the big wonder lol

i feel your pain. my '88 had a terrible headliner in it so i decided to fix it myself, too.......i ripped the whole thing out, and left it out cause at the time i had no money to replace it. it looked kinda cool though.

 

mine was in six peices and the headliner material was falling off, how was I suppossed to fix that? Besided I had the maoney and it was well worth it! :lala:

Check this out. I didn't pay anyone for a new one. The main thing is to make sure that you cut out more material than you need. If you cut too little, you are screwed. I almost f**ked up.

Real answer!
Buy the THIN headliner material! The thick stuff is not real pliable so you will have a hard time getting it to fit right! Spray the glue on and let it dry, then re-spray glue lightly and apply headliner material. I haven't done it on this car yet but I am going to do it soon. When I do mine I am going to reinforce my headliner with fiberglass and resign so it is not so brittle and cover it in pleather! You know. Fake Leather, like what is in the Audi A4. Much more durable for T-Tops and a better color variety!

It you look at the fabric before taking off, you should see two little separate pieces of fabric that is glued over the headliner where you are having problems rolling it. The trick is after you wire brush the old glue off, and get you new headliner installed and rolled as best you can; then take some extra headliner, strip off the foam backing, and with minimal glue paste it over the corners. This is kind off confusing to explain but an upolstery man explained the procedures to me. If you look at your headliner or someone elses headliner in good shape, you will see what I am talking about.
