Need help with dash wiring route through dash.

So I guess I should have taken pics before I took everything apart because it was too long before I put it back together...

Can someone take some pics of under their dash or tell me if the main dash wiring harness is routed correctly here? I am putting it back together and I feel like the wires are too tight and getting pinched here and need to route under the metal bracket...

It has to go deep into the dash, above the steering column. It is a pain in the ****. It is an atrocious design.

yeah its above where the steering column would be. I have the steering column out right now. But from going above it seems like it might loop under that metal bracket instead of squeeze in between the space I have it in right now. I'm about to cut all the wires on the drivers side and install a big *** body connector from a newer Mopar (I work at a dealership as a tech) so I can just have the dash on a bench and build the whole thing with the wiring and then plug the big connector in once I put it back in.

Re: Need help with dash wiring route through dash.

Harness goes over the top above the metal dash support. Follow the line of holes in the back of the plastic dash where the clips push in.

My harness is tightly wrapped in tape from factory, no split tubing. There is no room for split tubing to exist, the wire bundle just barely fits by itself.

Re: Need help with dash wiring route through dash.

Nobody can say yet whether you've got it routed right because you don't have the dash far enough together to make that conclusion. Remember what I said in your other thread: The dash is like Legos --> you put it together 1 piece at a time.

The main trunk of the harness follows the structural metal rail all the way across the car to the passenger side. The pocket behind the dash above the rail is the highway for the harness. The harness has fir trees that push into holes at intervals in the plastic dash. There is no split tubing on the main trunk, it's all tightly wrapped in tape. Branches from the trunk peel off to devices where needed and most those have split tubing on them. Mounting the devices in place solves the mystery where the branches go.

It is infinitely easier if you pop the rivets that hold the plastic dash to the structural rail. That way you can install the rail first and set everything in place and do all the "behind the dash" work with easy access to everything. Then slip the plastic dash in place and push in the fir trees to clip the harness in place, and then bolt the main dash to rail again. I installed my dash once like stock and it was a real circus trick. The next time I popped the rivets and it was cake walk, just took patience.

You can see a picture of my harness in Post #136 and dream of how easy it would be if you pop the rivets to separate the rail from the dash, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ml#post5803560
