85 Camaro Heater Box

Hi guys!

I'm curious to see what you guys think this might be worth. It's the original heater box. Just pulled that and the core out yesterday! From my understanding, these were stock in cars up in the northern US and I got mine here in Michigan so it would make sense!

Hello Fluffalufi,

I would estimate it to be worth almost $0. Most valuable part is that copper/brass heater core (if it isn't rotten). Can't seem to find those aftermarket right now and the aluminum ones they make are garbage.

This part of the above statement is way off. You can easily get over $100 for this setup without the heater core on eBay.
Aaron is right about the heater core though. It’s worth it to repair / recore an original vs using an aftermarket POS.

Fluffy,

Post it on ebay for $100 without the heater core. Let us know when it sells. I'm legitimately curious about this.

Okay, I have a guy on Facebook who wants both the box and core and he asked what I was thinking for a price. $100 seems fair

Hi Aaron, I sure did! For that price too. I still have the brass heater core, that hasn’t sold yet.

Anyone know if the repops are metal or fiberglass / plastic? I see a lot of listings on eBay but none mention what material the box is made of.

Re: 85 Camaro Heater Box

I've seen them made out of both metal and a composite. My car has no ac and the box is metal. It's pretty close to the headers, I couldn't imagine the plastic/composite ones doing well 2 inches from headers. My old Edelbrock TES headers were almost touching and I clearanced it. Dons headers have more room there but not a ton.

Re: 85 Camaro Heater Box

FWIW,the AC boxes are composite and the top piece is plastic and they've seemed to have lasted fine, but aftermarket are hit and miss sometimes. The ones ive seen on ebay say plastic, but some look like they could be metal.
