86 Camaro Interior Plastics Clarificaiton

Hey All,

Brand new to the Camaro world and was afforded the opportunity to restore an 86 Z28. Only had 50K Miles on the engine but sat for 20 years and interior was invaded so needs to be replaced. I searched the forums and online and am getting conflicting information id love some of you experts to help with. I am going to replace almost every piece of the entire (Changing the color). I have no problem finding carpets, T top parts, and door parts but the plastics are posing me a real issue. My issue is two fold:

1) I am being told the interior plastic pieces vary from 84-86 vs 87 up. So im stuck trying to locate the 84-86 versions. An validity to that?
2) I can find every other reproduction part ( I don't care about originality) except a plastics kit. Am I that bad at the google machine that I am missing something obvious or is this just not as simple as I feel it should be?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I can only answer based on my knowledge, but the here are the similarities and differences Im aware of.
Interchangeable to 86:
83-92 Sill plates
82-89 rear seat upper and lower trim (driver and passenger side (90-92) have 3 pt seat belts.
82-87 armrests
82-86 tail light panel (87-92 have pull down motors and are larger)
82-89 rear ceiling trim.
84-92 dash pad
82-89 instrument panel
The center console and kick panels should be the same 82-92.

I'm unaware of anyone making reproduction panels.

I cleaned all interior panels, sprayed plastic adhesion spray then had the body shop take picture of rear headliner panel. we then had the paint company mix up about a pint. Srayed in booth, let dry overnight and installed. i didn't change color mine is Carmine. that was over 10 years ago and it all still looks great. Car is not garge kept. I don't know why you couldn't do same process with a color change.

Depends what color you are changing to. IIRC 82-84 and 85-92 had different shades of gray. In terms of compatability:

85?-92 tail light panel (1986 cars have the hatch pull down)
82-90 rear ceiling trim. 91+92 had the 3rd brake light inside the hatch

82-89 instrument panel
The center console and kick panels should be the same 82-92.

The 89’s also have the 3-point rear seat belts. They started in ‘89….’89-‘92.

The dash design was slightly altered on the passenger-side when they updated the interior for ‘90. It’s slightly smoother and softer in contour than the more hard edged looking appearance of the ‘82-‘89 passenger-side dash panels.
