Rear cargo light

I have a 1985 Z28. Is the rear cargo light switch a 3 position switch. All the way left off, middle for when hatch is open, and right all the way on? If so is the middle position dependent on it being dark to light up?

My 1985 Z28 is a 2 position switch. On, and off.
