Or a similar or alternate?

Interesting, where is this switch mounted normally, my 91 Firebird doesn’t have this switch.

The Lamp and Switch Assembly are just above the Cargo/ T-Top Well...
And just below the Latch.

Below is an Image of the Rear most Trim-Panel in the Cargo/ T-Top Well.
The Lamp is on the Left Side of the Image; and the Switch on the Right:

"Early" cars used a manual switch but "Later" cars used a switch on the PPD motor so the light was 'automatic'. I think the change was somewhere around 90 or so. In my 84 ( manual switch ) I wired it up to my Courtesy Light circuit so the hatch lighting is active whenever the DOME light is on.

I made a similar change in my 87.

With the Switch in the OFF Position... the Light of course remains OFF.

However, if the Switch is in the ON Position... the Light will be OFF... But turn on with the Doors OPEN or the Dome-Light ON.
