Best Console Lid?

Has anybody bought one of these two console lids?

Hawks: HT14035760,
Camaro central: CON-175B

The prices are so different, I wonder if they are different manufacturers.

I found a thread on the one from Hawk's but it's a Firebird lid. Not sure what year. He described it as junk:

I wonder if the Camaro is just as bad.

Re: Best Console Lid?

I saw that. Maybe I can't compare this one to the other lid in the above post.

If I have to, I'll order both and then make a decision.

I have one. It's garbage. Just saw you're asking about the camaro one... can't say, but the firebird one sure is junk.
I just posted about it yesterday in another thread.

Could also consider the Screaming Chicken lid.

Re: Best Console Lid?

That was my post. It is a Firebird Lid, and was total junk plastic inside. I made it work using a whole tube of two component epoxy and eliminated the spring that pulls it down. I'm using a magnet to keep it from flopping. The Camaro lids you show look much better

Re: Best Console Lid?

There are a couple on E-Bay for 75 dollars, but their condition may not be much better than yours.

Mine was cracked as well and I just got through installing a piece of aluminum angle inside with 8-32 nutserts.

The hinge anchors were also broken.

Aluminum angle with nutsets installed using JB-Weld..

When I was done I used fabric paint to dress it up.

I will have to see if it holds up?

Thank you! The Camaro lid we sell is American made and has been a popular product over the last couple of years (current price is $89.95). Unfortunately, we have not found a quality Firebird console lid that we feel comfortable selling.

Dang! I placed a large order yesterday with Camaro Central including their lid for $135. Maybe I'll be able to figure out the manufacturer and see if it's the same as yours.

$89.95 is the regular price on the one we sell. It used to be $149 about two years ago but the manufacturer switched to a US based factory and the price went down quite a bit. I believe there is only one company making those and then they go to the different retailers like Screaming Chicken, Hawks, Camaro Central, Classic Industries, Summit, etc.

I've bought several things the past three years from Screaming Chicken and have been quite happy.

Re: Best Console Lid?

I forgot to follow through with this. I received the lid from Camaro Central and it looks great. There were no other identifying numbers on the package, but I would assume it's the the same as Screaming Chicken's.

The only issue I see is that the latch doesn't appear to want to move in far enough to clear the striker and makes it difficult, if not impossible to unlatch. I didn't have the hinges bolted to the console, so I can't be sure what the problem might be if there is any. My first thought is to trim the length of the latch, but we'll see when it's time for final assembly.

I considered returning it to get Screaming Chicken's but after the restocking fee, return shipping and time spent, I'll just keep it.

We have not had the latch problem with the one we're selling. I'd bolt it up and see if that helps.

Re: Best Console Lid?

Yeah, I bet it had a lot to do with me trying it without installing it. (I hope)...

Re: Best Console Lid?

Well now, maybe I will be return this lid. I discovered two cracks on the underside plastic by the one of the latch screws. Maybe it was over-tightened.

We'll see what they say.

I'm going to take some additional pictures of the part we sell, may not be the same part.

Re: Best Console Lid?

Fixed/reinforced mine by drilling holes, installing a steel rod, stitched the cracks together with copper wire and oatey black goop. Steel plate opposite arm w/ matching holes for rivets. Rebuilt pad w/ expanding foam . Been good since 2014.
