Rebuilding the LT1, need suggestions

Ok, I'm new to this engine swap thing. I've got an LT1, but its definitely not ready to drop in. I'm planning on keeping it pretty much stock, but I'll probably replace the cam.

I'm looking for suggestions to build the engine, reccomendations of parts to use, etc.

Things to do so far:
-hot tank
-cylinder bore .030
-magna flux

What cam would you reccomend for an LT1? Anything special I should look for in pistons, bearings, etc? Share your rebuilding knowledge!

It may not need to be bored out, I would have it checked and if it's within specs, don't waste the money to bore it and put new pistons in, just hone out the cylinders and use the original pistons and re-ring it.

I was going to swap my cam out down the road and just put a CC306 in it.

I would recommend Clevite77 bearings and Hastings rings, I have so far rebuilt 5 engines using those and all are still going strong today.

Plus if you haven't torn the motor down yet, how many miles were on it and did the person you got the engine from run the engine before it was pulled it may not need a total rebuild. I got lucky and actually saw the car that my engine/tranny came out of, they were driving it like 2 hours before I picked the engine out and was told it ran strong so I didn't bother with a rebuild, just a new gasket setup.

The engine was sitting in the guy's yard for a while. There's some rust in there, so I'm pretty sure it has to be bored.

What would you suggest in the way of pistons and connecting rods?

your doing the same swap into the same car as i am. it wouldn't be a 5 speed by any chance would it? . Anyway, I pretty much want to know the same thing, except I want to stroke mine if I have to rebuild it. No point in takin it apart twice, later when I need to make some extra power. Can a 4.00 crank be used in the lt1?
