LTX and LSX Putting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

LT1 Newbie - Oh dear...

Ok, ok... I'm new at this fuel injection stuff.. I've been tinkering with engines and carbs for years, I have an 1984 T/A with absolutely no computer in it. And since I have absolutely fallen on an excellent deal with a very low K LT1 1995 9C1 Caprice, I have decided to go ahead with swapping in the engine.
Based on encouraging posts here, and the complete running-ness of my doner car, I figured I had everything I needed (aside from fuel lines, and a fuel pump).

..But...

I have the engine almost ready to come out of the Caprice, and am trying to seperate that pain in the *** bulkhead connector, so I look online and suddenly I see people doing under-dash wiring that's not good!

So a few questions:

1 - I was hoping to keep this project an under-hood project, am I now into major wiring of under dash components? I saw there was an engine management computer under the air cleaner box, is there yet another computer under the dash I need to wire in now?

2 - Now if so, and my confidence is somewhat shaken now, is there a better forum for new guys to get a bit more prepared for the swap? I can't find any books on the subject anywhere and most of the wiring diagrams provided online here at thirdgen are for already fuel injected vehicles..

I'm not sure if I'm planning on taking enough stuff off of the doner car now, I'm concerned that I might need wiring and associated components from the dash area.. say it aint so!!

I do have the complete car, so if anyone is industrious enough, please feel free to incluse what they think I should remove from the vehicle while I have it, as to not forget anything important.

Thanks!!

Oh yes, I have lots of pictures of the whole process if anyone is interested in starting up a step by step page onlilne anywhere.. Webspace?

Anyone out there?

Worries for nothing.. Got the rest of the engine out, I am just upset that the fan wiring harness on the caprice is opposite, and hard-wired to the dash.. I was hoping to use the whole under-hood harness so sad..

Well the car is almost ready to go, one last chance for someone to tell me what else I need before it goes!

I asume I can't use the fuel pump from the caprice tank, I'll have to buy the TPI version for my car I think..

Anyone out there?

I cut my fan harness off at the bulkhead. It seems as if they built the car around it. Some of those wires will connect to your C100 connector thats in the same place. Namely the keyed injector and constant wire to the harness. So yes, snag it.

I cut mine out with tin snips. That way you should be able to salavage the underhood fuse box.

Good luck

Thanks for the info, I did end up chopping it off.. The only under-hood item I don't have is the fuel evaporator canister.. so it's pretty stripped. I was trying to acertain wether or not to grab the fuel pump and wiring from the tank back, but it looks like the wiring runs through the car, not underneeth, and I'm betting there is nothing from the caprice fuel pump I can use anyhow..

Thoughts?
