those running spohn mounts?
those running spohn mounts?
anybody have pictures of the relation to the engine to the firewall? the way his mounts sit the lsx setup i can almost sit in between the firewall and the motor. you can definately see the trans in the engine bay which doesn't seem right, when i called them up to question everything they told me that it was correct. my stock torque arm and mount is a little under 3" from mounting on the trans as well. just curious how everyones sits...
that doesnt seem right at all Jeff.....mine sits like the old sbc did in the bay. have any pics of it? maybe of the k-member. is this the pa member that you just took the sbc mounts off from?

mine is super tight at the back, i wish it was about another centimeter back too.. somethings majorlly wacked out with ur K-member or the mounts are wacked out or backwards :|
hmm... well according to spohn i have them right, i'm going to check them again in the morning as they are no where near what is pictured above. it's very open, the fact you can see the trans in the engine bay bothers me....
Ace, pat and the rest, do you guys have above shot pictures to show how close it is in relation. i do have a pa k-member but the factory mounts sat in location to where it should be. the only way i could get that much out of my setup would be to use just the rear 2 holes of the factory support section that the ls1 style mounts bolt to. this would leave over half of the mount without support though?
any ideas or suggestions of all sorts would be appreciated, i've tried swapping the mounts, flipping them, everything short of building my own setup. the fact that the original sbc motor was in perfect location to me would suggest the mounting points are fine on the k-member, somehow either the mounts i bought from spohn are messed up or they are simply installed wrong.
a picture of the mounts bolted down would help alot.
thanks everyone.

anyone have a picture of how you mounted the mounts to your k-member? it sounds silly but sitting looking at them i just can't see any other way they could go and searching the forum hasn't brought me much luck lately.

Here's an early pic I took during mockup:

i can see your problem right now.. they used the other holes in the k-member with the stock mounts
the plates your using would have to go back about 2 inches
how youd fix that.. **** youd almost have to re-invent the wheel here.. or go back to a stock K

Ace already said it..
its that same thing i told you about in PMs awhile back... the "conversion mounts" work only with the stock Kmember.
it needs to be back... like this:
either cut and mod your existing Kmember, or get another one.

I think there is an easier and a cheaper way to make this work. I still thinking making the adapter plates like I was talking about will work. Make a couple plates about the same thickness as the Spohn mounts and make them to spec following the red outline I made on Mr_Dude1's picture. Drill holes where I have the red dot and put bolts in all those places...
This is what I was gonna do for my conversion when the JRE Tubular K-member was the only one availible for our cars when I did my swap. Which was before the Spohn tubular k-member.

thanks alot everyone, that's exactly what i had to do. moved the mounts to the rear holes pushed it back perfectly and dropped it an inch or so as well which was nice. when i first ran into the problem one of the guys at spohn told me that they went in the forward holes so that's where i got confused. after some searching and speaking with steve himself i got it all cleared up.
MrDude_1 i'm out of my state right now trying to finish this car up so i didn't have access to the pictures i saved that you sent. after several hours of searching though i found it in time. essentially i just had to extend the mounting surface and triangulate the support. so far so good, thank you.
thanks again everyone. deadlines and limited resources aren't fun, thank *** for the internet in times like this.

Buy Street and Preformance LS1 mounts, they let you use the stock SBC mount on a LS1.
