LS1 swap TACHOMETER issues!!

I am having some issue with my tach in my '91 GTA with the LS1 in it. I'm using the Baker Electronics tach signal converter box and my tach works fine until about 5k rpms or so and then it drops way down. WTF?!?! Anyone else having issues like this?? I guess I could use this Dakota Digital box for my tach but I don't know which output to use and what settings (10 off/on switches) to have the box on. Anyone??? Please help, thanks!!!

Thanks!

I took the Baker Electronic box off and just hooked the wires up directly... we're trying to tune the tach output of the PCM but haven't had much luck yet. It works sometimes, but usually drops down and won't work. We're wondering if we're using the wrong tach output from the PCM. Which one do I need??

Thanks!

Re: LS1 swap TACHOMETER issues!!

Did you ever get this gremlin figured out man? I had my pcm programmed to work with the stock 3rd gen tach, but it flutters on decel or cruise. If I stomp it once it hits about 4500rpm it drops out like you are saying, and just stops working all together until the RPM drop again.

If you search under my user name on LS1tech, you'll find my solution to this problem.

I had to add a stepup circuit. Wasn't terribly hard, but it was necessary. Tach seems pretty accurate too

good luck with it
