Looks great! Where did you get it? I guess you got a pretty good deal for only 40k miles. Good luck with the swap.

Yea, def. keep us posted. If you could, keep a datalog of the things you do and part/part numbers and take a lot of pics. It would be great for us wanted to do the swap at a later time.

Yeah i will take alot of pics of the swap. But from what heard and read its a pretty simple swap just got to do alot of research and understand the wiring. Guys on here almost already map out the swap for us. Just got to know how to read it. I wont be doing th swap till april or may due to cold weather and rain. So i got time to save up for parts and pay off the engine.

Im not suprise that you guys remember the date when you got your engine lol. It feels so good to have and just even look at it makes me even more proud!!

I have a question about hooking the coolant guage wire in the car. Where do i mount the coolant sending unit on the 2000 LS1?? Is it here?

yup.

on the drivers side, the stock PCM one is there

on the passenger side, there is/was a allen head plug there... just screw in your sending unit there and you have a hookup for your gauge.

i see that engine is from a 98-99 car... 1st thing i would do.. is upgrade the intake manifold to a 01-02... they got the LS6 intake.. and also didnt have EGR.. if you have a 98, the PCM is totally different than the 99+ cars... and i beleive the only tuning can be done with LS1edit or HP tuners.. i think that Hypertech just released a 98 version.

also... LS1 are notorious for burning up power steering units.. GET A GOOD COOLER.. the 99+ cars had a cheap cooler than ran inline with the radiator hose.. hardly worth a damn.. get a good cooler or burn up your pump.

i would also suggest getting a catch can.. LS1's have horrible PCV systems, unlike the 01-02 year which was supposed to be corrected.. pull the throttle body and check for oil.. better yet.. pull the intake off and check for any oil residue in there... if so.. get a catch can to eliminate the problem.

i have a 98 LS1 car, ive been doing my research

I just went with the LS6 PCV system when I went with the LS6 intake. It pulls from the lifter valley instead of the heads.

i have a LS6 PCV setup, but i havent gotten around to putting it on yet....

its a worthwild mod if your LS1 is having PCV oil control issues.... mine isnt yet, but the current PCV wont be upto snuff once the turbo goes on....

They guy that i bought the engine from said it was off a 2000 camaro SS?? How do you figure it is a 98-99 motor? Yeah i was going to get an LS6 intake with EGR (Cali rules) and get a LS1 Hot Cam and a better flowing TB and some other little things too. Can i do all this and still pass smog? Ive been doing alot of reading on LS1Tech. Good website

2000 still had EGR. KillJoy left that year out for some reason. I wound up getting a good deal on the SLP LS6 intake (modified for EGR). It now holds my IAT sensor, but it looked like it would work pretty well for EGR (as designed).

How much did you pay for the LS6 intake and where? So how did the egr fit? good or did you have to modify anything? Do you think i will be fine when i put in the LS1 Hot cam in there and still pass smog?

Yeah i called the guy up again and asked him do double check the year of the engine again and it is a 2000.

Here's the link at Thunder:

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=3&pcid=177

I junked the EGR and used the port they added for another sensor. From the instructions it seems pretty straight forward to keep EGR with it. The $500 price tag looks high, but it does include vent tubes/plugs needed when going from LS1 to LS6. I wound up finding an unused one an hour way for $300. That was pretty cool.

Wow you got hooked up on that LS6 intake. Yeah i cant wait to start buying stuff for my new LOVE (LS1) LOL!!! I still got to pay off the motor. I was really tempted to buy parts today. Its hard dude not to. I heard that the LS6 intake should add around 15HP at the wheels. Are you going to get a newer TB??

Naw i already bought myself an ls1 car. THeres a guy on norcal-ls1 named cobrakillr that had done a thirdgen ls1 swap and got it referee and smogged. Also i suggest to send ur ls1 wire harness and ur thirdgen wire harness to speartech so he could modify the ls1 harness to work with ur factory harness. All u have to do is plug-n-play. All ur gauges will work. He has a company car that is an 91z28 ls1 swap, also he done a great job with customers that had done the swap. His website is www.speartech.com.

Yeah i know about cobrkiller i went to his house to check his car out. Really cool guy. Im not going to send my harness cause im going to do it myself. It doesnt seem that hard anyways just got to make a map out and also Mr. Dude gave me alot of info on the wiring anyways and i went to school for this anyways so im going to put my money to work. LOL. Yeah speartech is a really cool place and cool guy but i dont want to spend about 1200 just for a plug and play thing. you know what i mean bro. I have the knowleged and i paid 40,000 for that knowledge. hahahha. thanks anyways for the suggestion.

Yeah they charge a grip. I could save that money and do a cam swap and some other stuff.

Well i wont be doing the swap till the weather gets better in cali. To much fog and rain right now. and also i dont want to work out in the cold. you know what i mean.... So it looks like sometime in april or may. Gives me time to save up and get more parts.

if you're going to do a cam swap.. make it worthwhile... all the guys are ditching the hotcam(not enough lift) and going just a little bigger lift (560.. hotcam is 525). scoggin dickey has some nice in-house cams, check them out.

check out LS1tech and do a search for hotcam... people were seeing gains but not what they should be with a decent cam. get some springs to handle .600 of lift and make sure you get the hardend pushrods.

yes i forgot about the bastard year of 2000.. sorry..

and you dont need EGR to be CA legal... program the PCM to delete the EGR, since 01-02 engines didnt have EGR, just A.I.R. .. the smog tech cant tell the difference by looks... just say you got it out of an 01..

just incase anyone is using a T56 with their combo.. make very sure you use at least 2004+ Z06 master cylinder clutch hydrolics (they dont have the cltuch line restriction)

and if you are in need of a really good cltuch/fly wheel combo.. the LS7 clutch and LS2 flywheel is a big favorite, something i will be going to in a month

last but not least... if you get a smog ref that is a d*ck.. he might check to see if you are using the LS1 fuel tank with the Evap mounted to it.. just an FYI.. some one else had that problem in SoCal.

Hey thanks Killjoy for the great info on the cam. Ill have to look into that. I didnt know that the 01-02 didnt have EGR. I might just have to do that. but as for the fuel tank im going to place the 4th gen one in there with all the emissions stuff such as EVAP and A.I.R.. and now there is a BIG ??? on EGR... But im not going to let the Smog ref stump me on the swap. you know what i mean?? Play it safe.

yep, you wont gain or lose ANY hp with the EGR on.. it just cleans up the engine bay. i also have an EGR mod you can do, so it doesnt inhibit airflow in the intake manifold. would take about 5mins to do.

if you get a tank from a 4thgen.. 98 for some reason uses a steel tank, and holds 15.5 gallons.. the newer 99-02 plastic ones are supposed to hold 16.8 gallons. both are supposed to weigh the same... odd...

I would like to know about that EGR mod if you dont mind. I also got the 00 tank which is plastic. Looks like it could hold more than 16 gallons. How much does the 3rd gen hold?? 16 or 15 gallons??

youre going to want to remove the entire EGR with all its tubes.

super easy mod... 1st you need to remove that 10mm nut on the intake..

2nd, remove the weather pack connector to the EGR

3rd, remove the bolts that bolt the EGR to the passenger head.

4th remove the bolts holding the tube to the headers off.

now that you have the complete EGR system removed.. look at the tube going to the intake, you are going to cut about 1.25" off that tube, so your intake has no restriction in it..

there are pictures on www.installuniversity.com

look up "free EGR mod"

does this really free up any HP?? It seems like it will increase the air flow into the intake. No restrictions

supposedly someone on the LS1 tech board dyno'd before and after..and neted 2hp.. but that can happen with doing multiple dyno runs..

i think it just helps airflow.. but "IF" there was a gain.. why not? its not hindering anything by doing it.
