Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Third gens arent lt1 f bodys either, 4th gens are. They don't make 1 5/8 header for lt1 birds or camaros. I could stand corrected if someone finds a set.

When I ran 1 5/8 on mine I wasn't happy with them.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
1 3/4 have been seen to cause problems with the way the exhaust came out of the ports and cause a tad of power loss. I'm running 1 5/8 and seem to be running great. A few guys around here are running 1 5/8 on 7 sec 1/8 mile cars with no problems at all.

for reprogramming www.madz28.com www.pcmsforless.com www.carolinaautomasters.com
I am biased towards CAM but all will do a good job.
Not sure about the torque arm mounts.. when I first went auto the tranny had them already.. you can always go with a jegs or spohn torque arm to move the mounting point also.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
It's not quite as easy as you put it. Find the post from Firebat on what he had to do in order for it to work. He has stated several times on this forum if he had it to do over again, he would put a 4L60E in the car.

That's what I meant. Put the 700r4 tailhousing on the 4l60e. So he can keep his torque arm.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Apparenlty the pricing of the hedman headers have gone up...
$606 shipped for the headers and y from Summit
$618 shipped for the headers and y from Jegs..
Anywhere else I can find them from for cheaper? I mean I got my pacesetter lts and y shipped for less than that....
Oh.. and will the shorty headers bolt up to the stock Y-pipe? I dont' want to stick a bunch of money into the exhaust as I'm going to be going turbo in the not so distant future.. and if I can save $100 by not getting their y-pipe that would help... let me know.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
So any way, I kicked this project to the side a while ago. When I look up the pictures of the headers on summit it doesn't seem like the header and y pipe will bolt up, or flange up. Just want to make totally sure these will fit my car. Can someone tell me for sure of the cheapest part # of the hedman shorty headers, and Y pipe that will fit on to a 95 LT1, going into a 91 Camaro? Thank You very much

I decided to abandon my LT1 swap since I went out and bought a Corvette. So now I'm trying to sell off the swap parts.
PM me for more details. I'll beat whatever price you can find them for.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
LT1's have the same exhaust pattern as regular SBC's. Use thirdgen headers and they will bolt right up. 4th gen LT1 headers will not fit in a thirdgen chassis.
I would recommend Dyno Don's 1 3/4" headers. They're made to fit LT1 heads and aftermarket heads with .100" raised exhaust ports. Search the Exhaust board for "dyno don headers" and send him a PM for more info.
And forget about "cheap." I dont believe in cheap and good. You can get one or the other, not both.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Sorry to dredge up an old post, but will stock caprice manifolds fit? I'm getting a whole parts car and I'm trying to keep this under some financial control. Also, what would the absolute cheapest header option be? Cheap may sound bad, but so does my less-than-170 hp 305.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Ok just to clear something up, I have hedman headers and ypipe on my 85 now, i am having starter issues because my factory starter is to big and bulky for this setup. Ive since pulled motor and trans and am dropping LT1 in myself (hints why im on this thread) now will i have same clearing issues, or are you guys not having this problem.
Let me diagnose for those who dont understand. I had a factory gen 1 block iin my car. I put the hedman kit on and it wouldnt start (starter to flywheel grinding) I thought it mighta needed a shim, but it ran fine beefore. I found out that my ypipe was actually forcing my starter up. the starter is smack dab on the ypipe. therefore causing the nose to come down. there is no messing with it, it needs a mini starter or one off a newer car since they are factory smaller now. Does anyone understand that, if so did they have that problem.

I did have problems with the Y pipes the Y header connectors wouldnt fit so I took my y pipes to muffler shop and cut the connecters and move them alittle then weld them so they would fit as for starter my Lt1 swap inculdes the 4L60E trans and am using the lt1 starter I had no problems so far my E mail is brioneschevybelair@yahoo,com if you need a picture of my y pipe welds

I just went with a new lt1 starter. It is so much lighter than that old piece of junk. No issues at all with it.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
You put a TPI system on an LT1? Chunk that and put a stock LT1 intake and opti on it, with the LT1 PCM and you'll probably be in the mid 13's with the stock tune.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Question, I'm in the middle of my LT1 swap. I've been doing a lot of searching but can't find what I need and the rest has got me all confused. Question is I'm in arizona so I need to pass emissions, I need headers but I can't seem to find headers with d-ports and the emissions stuff on them. Is there such a thing? should I stick to the ones with the round ports?
The shop is recomenting some edelbrok #68713 but I'm not too conviced about those.
Hope the question is clear.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Do you know the part number for the hedman with tubes that are ceramic coted? I see the ones that aren't does it really matter if they have the round port vs d-ports?
and if they have the round ports will using the d-port gaskets help them seal better?
I've seen similar questions before but all the info has just turned my brain to mush.
Thanks for the help guys appreciate it.

Re: lt1 swap headers needed
I'm planning on buying Hedman's shorty headers with d-ports and their y-pipe but don't know whether to spend the extra money for the HTC coating. I'm gonna have the EGR and O2 sensors welded on so was wondering if there's any problems welding onto the coating or if I should buy the uncoated and have them coated after the EGR and O2 sensors are welded on.

i'm having good luck with my hooker super comp setup. you might want to take a look into them. they have air tubes too. the only downside is that they're shorties. i've seen long tubes fit in a third gen, but they're real ugly and botched. the only problem i actually have with them is they suck changing plugs with. you almost have to take them out completely to change a few. putting in new exhaust gaskets is a pita too. they came with my car, so i don't know how much they run, and they fit the cast iron lt1 heads perfect, the cast heads don;t have a d port

I would get the coated headers if your planing on showing at car shows I like ceramic coating I got it in my 55 chevy 350 / 4speed headers and all exhaut pipes front to back over twenty years and they still look great I shine em up using Mother's chome wax and on my 86 IROC Z I got the shortys with the Y pipe I might get the Y pipe ceramic coated this winter since its parked for the winter

Nice car, BTW. Really good work. I would by some good ceramic coated headers, but I already have the exhaust system done although it was on there when i got it. It's decent, but will need doing again in about 5 years.
