ls1 motor plates and solid mounts?

I'm going to go with solid mounts on my 92 when I drop the 6.0 in. I plan to try the trans-dapt plates made for the earlier three-bolt sbc mounts and use a solid moroso/jegs/competition engineering solid three-bolt mount instead of pads. I hear there are three "different" types/heights of mounts made for the regualr sbc too. Any ideas as to which will best go in a third gen? I'm sure I'll have to loosen my motor plates on the crossmember but would like a decent idea where to start with the mounts before I buy the stuff. Thanks, Bill

I have not done an LS swap yet but I have done a lot of investigation.

The mount (#4231) that Trans-Dapt wants you to use with their plates (#4572) is 1 3/4" tall and 2 5/8" I.D.wide. You can use the Moroso 82-92 solid frame mounts (#62610) that are 2 3/8" O.D. wide with the #62530 (1 3/4" tall) engine mounts but you will need to use two 1/8" spacers on each frame mount to make up the 1/4" width difference.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the response. I'm wondering if rather than removing the plates to put a spacer under them maybe I could use my die grinder with an aggressive bit on it and oblong the holes out and up approx. 1/8" to compensate for the width change in the mounts. I haven't looked at the frame mount plates to see if changing the hole location would make a difference or not. Raising the motor a tad would be no problem and 1/8" is so little you'd never see it. I have gobs of hood clearance too(4" cowl) so the carb WILL clear even with a plate(spray and bake) under it.

The spacers make up the front to rear difference in width from the engine mounts and frame mounts.

You have the LS adaptor mounts/plates, engine mounts, and then frame mounts. The frame mounts are designed to use an engine mount that is 2 3/8" wide and 2 1/8" tall. The adaptor mounts/plates can use any three bolt mount, but the kit uses a mount that is 2 5/8" I.D. wide by 1 3/4" tall. I think the adaptor mount/plate is 3/8" thick, so you should be able to use all three parts together without any grinding but you would need to use a 1/8" spacer on each end so the frame mount is snug in the motor mount (front to rear).

If you already have Moroso solid mounts in the car, all you need to do is get the correct engine mounts (1 3/4" tall X 2 5/8" wide) and the LS adaptor mounts/plates.
