Thrown together CAI.

Its pretty decent for $115 I guess. I will be changing it up a little. I'm gonna route it down under the battery tray sometime soon. Its hardly cold air coming in when you are sitting idle for sometime. I've seen it get up to 120 while scanning in the driveway. I'm sure it get cooler while cruising, but the laptop battery is dead so I have no way of finding right now. Anyways heres a rundown.

Elbow off of EBAY - $20
2' piece of 3.5" alum. of of EBAY - $25 (got 2 pieces for $48)
K&N form Vatozone (got ripped here) - $70 lol

The filter can be bought for cheaper obviously, so it could get cheaper.

What do ya think?

Looks good to me. Either way I'm jealous that you have it because it's attached to that LS1 you have in there. I can't wait until I drop one in my Formula.

ok im know i am just a V6 guy but why are you using that style of CAI? i could understand if the tubing was larger or something but you cant be getting any real gains using that setup over the stock one with K&N's. the factory intale is as Cold air as your gonna get plus it dont have any of the sharp bends like that.

The stock TPI air lid is a straight shot. But its restrictive when you start to make decent power. It necks down to about 2 5/8 at the opening. And it gets real thin as small as 5/8. Its a good design just could use a little improvement.

Mike H covered it good, but there has been a dyno done for the LS1, TPI intake vs. one smilar to mine and the one like mine was worth 20rwhp over the TPI set-up. And besides that, the elbow made it alot easier to mount my nozzle. With the MAF being 3.5" it makes more since to have the pre-MAF piping be 3.5" also.

Doesn't bernoilli's principle apply to the stock TPI intake?

When air is moving faster it produces lower air pressure.

Yeah thats why its a good design, but the cross section is too small. Just like the stock TPI intake. After a certain point its a restriction.

It's not resting on the hose coming from the radiator is it? Mine was doing that and it took me a few minutes to figure out why the metal tubing was getting so hot.

Yeah its touching it a little bit. When I put it in the tray, I'm gonna try and make it to where its in there without touching the hose. Might have to make a bracket or something.
