How similar are the LO5 and LT1?

A friend of mine was recenlty rear-ended in his LT1 Camaro, the insurance deemed it to be totalled. He is getting a buttload of money and is willing to part out the Camaro for cheap. I was wondering if anyone here has done a LO5 to LT1 swap before? The difference is that I own a 1989 9C1 Caprice with the LO5 and 700R4. How easily / hard will an LT1 go in, and can it use my 700R4?

The LT1 is slightly different. The heads are reversed cooled, the distributor(optispark) is behind the water pump and has a cam sensor. You need to rewire everything and use the LT1 computer and LT1 wiring. You can't simply swap the blocks.

The 700R4 can be made to work with the LT1: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ighlight=700r4
