Car: 91 RS
Engine: LT1
Transmission: T56
Axle/Gears: 3.42 LSD
LT1 swap, how hard?
I was looking for a T56 when i stumbled upon some one selling a complete LT1 and T56 combo at a decent price so i was wondering how hard it would be to swap the whole setup. The engine has every thing from the PCM to the front half of the exhaust system. Any advice or things to watch out for? I'd appreciate any help thanks.

Most of the difficulty of the swap is figuring out what to do. This site has tons of info and more everyday so thats a big help.
Its not a plug-and-play swap because the wiring has to be spliced, you can't just plug in a different harness. I recommend learning how to connect wires using a soldering iron, solder, and heatshrink tubing. Other things make it not a direct swap also.
How difficult somewhat depends on what your car has now and what you have for an LT1 and have with the LT1. For example, if your car is already set up for fuel injection and had a V8 to start with, then you're already a few steps ahead of some other LT1 swappers.
To watch out for. Hmm... Try to grab the entire engine harness and the entire dash harness, then trim down the harness.

Car: 88IROC vert and a 83 w/evo body
Engine: 400 and 350
Transmission: T56 and 700R4
Axle/Gears: 323 and 373
I done my swap a while back and recall the entire engine harness being connected to the engine and tranny and only a couple of wires going through the firewall.
It's not that bad as long as your one of those people that do a lot of stereo wiring and engine swapping.

If you want air conditioning get a corvette lt1 or lt4. I don't recall anyone on here getting the f body ac to work. I am in the process of rounding up the corvette parts for my swap. God willing and the creek don't rise, I will get the swap and paint done before the Texas heat sets in.

There are aftermarket a/c relocation brackets that are cheaper than corvette brackets and accessories. The aftermarket a/c brackets are nice, but I kind of wish I would have invested the money towards a tubular K member instead. With the tubular k member, I probably could run stock f-body accesories and then get the alternator relocated down low. That would be a cleaner look, the car would weigh less, and it would be easier to work on.
The stock f-body brackets and a/c can be made to work if left in the stock location, if you take a big hammer to the k-member.

I know the compressor will fit with the BFH mod to the crossmemeber but when I have searched the only functioning A/C is with the compressor relocated. Further agravating the situation is that the relocation brackets I looked at required removal of some emissions equipment or seemed to from the pictures. I would much prefer to keep what I have if the tubular crossmember allows for routing of the freon lines.

The way you would make the a/c work with stock brackets and bfh mod is to have custom lines made. There was one LT1 swapper who had lines made, even though that car had vette accessories. Bingo's car.
