Oddball Lt1 question
Oddball Lt1 question
I was wondering what oil pan and dipstick those of you with Lt1 swaps are using. My lt1 didn't come with a oilpan so i have the choice of what i use. Basically I just need to know if the LT1 and 350 TPI oil pans, oil pumps and dipsticks are the same and what I should be looking for for the best fit in a 3rd gen.

Oil Pan and dipstick
The LT1 oil pan has an oil level sensor in it. Any 87-up dipstick should work as long as you are using the third gen manifolds or headers. You could use a oil pan out of a third gen if you don't use the oil level sensor, as long as it for a one piece seal.
When my LT1 dipstick broke I got one new from GM for under $20. But if you can save $20 by salvaging your old one, then do that.
Isn't the oil level sensor's only purpose to trigger a "low oil" light in the 4th gen gauges? If so, it would not be needed if you are using thirdgen gauges.
