T56 Clutch
Looking for input on which clutch to use on my T56/Lt1 combo. Gonna have about 425-450hp, and I don't know if Ram's will hold up (says it's good for upto 400hp).

***EDIT*** sorry bro didnt notice you were talkin LT1
So in that case I suggest an LT4 pressure plate and a decent disk. I ran many combos and to be honest I never really found an ideal clutch set up for the LT1 style t56. I've read the Mcleod street twin is best for holding big power but a little harsh on the street. Even that set up seems to use the LT4 p plate. Good luck!

Re: T56 Clutch
I have the SPEC 3+, it holds good and isn't too bad for daily driving. The pedal is a little heavy, so it would suck if you have to deal with a lot of stop-and-go traffic.
I don't consider it an on/off switch either, I'm able to get smooth engagements after a little practice.

Re: T56 Clutch
I would personally stay away from spec. I'm not to familiar w/ the Spec 3+, but I know the Spec 3's the spring likes to come out of the hub.

Re: T56 Clutch
You'll hear pro's and con's about every clutch. I searched several sites and SPEC was one of the more popular and recommended clutches. The 3+ is an upgraded version of the 3; it'll hold a lot more power but it's better on the street than the 3.
I've purchased many parts from Thunder Racing, here's a link:

Re: T56 Clutch
I've had a SPEC Stage 3 in my car for over 5000 miles and have never had any problems with it. some people do, some people don't. The Centerforce Dual Friction that I had before it lasted almost 4 years. I'd highly recommend one.
also, what mods are you planning to get to 425hp?
go to specclutch.com for prices

Mods i'm doing are: fully ported heads/intake, 58mm TB, Comp 306, 1.6 full roller rockers, hedman d port shorties (need the clearance), descreened and ported MAF, and a good tune (open to suggestions for this). Hoping to get 425-450 engine HP, not sure what it would be at the rear wheels. It's going to be a daily driver, with just a little power in case those rice burners show up LOL.

Re: T56 Clutch
I just checked out SPEC's website and their stage 1 clutch says good till 480 torque, and stage3+ is like 800. Is that a little excessive and wouldn't stage 1 be good enough?

Re: T56 Clutch
To chime in with another option, I was running a spec stage 2 with no problems and now a spec stage 2+.. 400rwhp holds ok, comparing the two the 2+ appears to have much better springs on the disc and is plenty driveable..
If you are a track monster would drag radials I would then look to stage 3 and up..

Re: T56 Clutch
I completed my auto-to-T56 swap about 5000 miles ago and did a Spec 3 when I did the swap. I cant say enough good about it.
It holds great and is very drivable.
It was a virtual on/off switch for about the first 300 miles until it broke in. Now it is still aggressive, yet very streetable.
