LT1 alternator relocation for thirdgens

LT1 alternator relocation for thirdgens
I'm about done with my LT1 alternator relocation brackets. Just have to sand them down and paint them.
I decided to build my own because:
1. The only relocation brackets that exist cost $200
2. Those brackets probably won't work anyway(without modifying), for a thirdgen
3. I don't like how they have the idler pulley
4. It will look cleaner
Mine is very similar to speed specialty's brackets http://www.speedspecialty.com/store/...t1altbracketV2
I used a 3/16" piece of steel for the main bracket and cut it down with air compressor grinder. Bought a pulley from a napa and a new belt from advance. I did have to grind down a notch in the back of the alternator to clear the k-member brace. I have yet to grind down the stock bracket. Prices: 3/16 Steel-$20, Idler Pully-$17, Belt-$33, Total: $70, not including Grade 8 bolts(because I haven't bought all the bolts yet).
I'll have more pics when I get my engine bay done.
Here are some progress pics:

Re: LT1 alternator relocation for thirdgens
Yeah, just worked on it again about 3 weekends ago. I'll try to get some updated pictures and info. Since the lower bracket has to be custom made(or custom cut) the belt may not be the exact same size but close.
The picture of SS's bracket used to be posted all over the internet. If you know how to resize an image and be able to use a printer then you will have a really good template for the lower bracket.

Digging this up from the past but I figured it would be easier then making a new thread. Just wondering if you had any more pictures/information. How well did this work for you? What belt did you end up using. Thanks

Re: LT1 alternator relocation for thirdgens
I ended up going back to stock setup.
1. I got annoyed with taking the alternator out. The only way I could get it out was by removing it from the bottom along with the bracket.
2. The bracket also flexed slightly when revving the engine.
There are smaller size alternators that will fit in the LT1 f-body stock location. From a 94 caprice or something like that. I may go with one of those in the future but may try to find one that is more than 105 amps. More info here:
