AC Connection Issues

I have questions regarding AC compressors, connections with the harness, and hood clearance.

I have a 1985 IROC Camaro, which I put in an LT1 from a 1995 Caprice. I also used the Corvette LT1 pulley setup, which puts the AC compressor on the driver's side of the engine up high. The AC compressor has two wires leading from it to connect to the wiring harness (my wiring harness and computer for this engine are from Howell Engineering). The harness has only one wire to go to the AC compressor. The original wiring from the Camaro itself has two sets of wires to the AC compressor (I presume to controll the AC clutch and pressure cycling switch). Do I need to connect the AC compressor to the car's controls for the AC to work? Do I need to connect the original two sets of wires (from the car's wiring) to the AC compressor? The pressure sensor for the AC was connected to the wiring harness from the original TPI motor. Do I need to wire in a new pressure sensor to the Howell harness? And will the original AC hoses work on this new compressor?

Last question, will the alternator on the LT1 allow me to use the stock hood, or do I have to get a hood with cowl induction?

Thanks for your help.

Re: AC Connection Issues

I bet that 1 wire is the A/C request wire that goes to the control head in the car. It tells the car PCM to idle the car up when A/C is on. I am using factory A/C wiring and pressure sensors. Look at the pics on my Cardomain page. If you have any questions I will try to help. The alternator clears the stock hood.

Awesome!! Thanks for the info.

Did you use the AC hoses from the Firebird, or did you use hoses from the LT1? I am thinking about modifying the AC hoses from my Camaro to fit onto the compressor.

Re: AC Connection Issues

I made all new lines. You can see pics on my page. I got my hose and ends from www.hotrodair.com. I can take pics of the fittings if you need them. The car is down right now because of a battery relocation.
