LT1 emissions

will the LT1 engine function correctly if I just delete all emissions in my ECM and not worry about installing the O2 sensors?

Re: LT1 emissions

The LT1 and your ECM are mutually exclusive. The LT1 uses a specific PCM. It will run fine without the emissions components(AIR pump, EGR) with proper tuning. The O2s are needed for your engine to function at peak efficiency.

Re: LT1 emissions

is there a way O2 sensors can be put into 3rd gen headers that has no O2 slots, or does anyone have information on that

Re: LT1 emissions

Any competent exhaust shop can weld the fittings(bungs) into your exhaust. Make sure they are located at a point after all of the individual pipes merge together. This will ensure an accurate reading for the O2s.

Re: LT1 emissions

If you are running it into a single exhaust system, yes. LT1s use two O2s, one on each side. I run my O2s in my collectors. You can buy them with the bungs already installed.

Re: LT1 emissions

does your car run fine with o2 sensors there, someone else said the o2 sensors should be before the reducers or y-pipe

Re: LT1 emissions

I put the O2's in my hedman shorties directly into the collector before the y-pipe and haven't had a problem at all with them there.

Re: LT1 emissions

That's where the tubes of the headers come together and combine in an area where the y-pipe bolts to.

Re: LT1 emissions

Jegs has 3 bolt header collectors with the o2 inserts in it for the 3" to 3". would I be able to use these with the long tube hedmans that has a 3" collector. that way I can just bolt them to the end of the headers , and they already have the O2 inserts, also If I wanted the both exhaust to come out infront the rear tire would I need a y-pipe

Re: LT1 emissions

I decided to go with the Hedman shorty with a 3"to 3" collector that comes with the O2 sensor bungs. then I will get muffler shop to run me a custom dual exhaust. would I still need the y-pipe? by the way Im not running cats at all

Re: LT1 emissions

There is a y-pipe that Hedman makes that will bolt right up to the headers, just buy two o2 bungs and have them welded in.

Re: LT1 emissions

Would the headers work just with the collectors that already has the o2 bungs installed, and then just running it from there?

Re: LT1 emissions

The shorties have standard ball flange on them and the flat header collectors won't work.

Re: LT1 emissions

It's just a standard O2 bung, I think the ones I bought were 1 1/2, that's what size drill bit I used

Re: LT1 emissions

ok thanks. how hard is it to make the provisions for the o2 bungs because if its nothing to it, I rather do it myself than to get taxed by the muffler shops down here.

Re: LT1 emissions

Drill a hole in the header collector just big enough for the bung to go into in a place to make it easy to take the O2s out if needed, and weld it up. I used a drill press to make sure I didn't screw up the hole or slip messing the headers up using a bi-metal hole saw.
