Your TH700 won't just bolt up.

In my opinion - and I'm only expressing my opinion - a carburetor on an LSx engine is bastardization in the worst way. Take the latest technology (or at least, nearly the latest technology), throw it in the trash bin, and put old-school on it. I have yet to see a carb system produce as much power as the same LSx EFI system, yet it keeps being touted as "the thing".

By the time you get that abomination running you could have bought a complete LS1/4L60E and had it running, without any of the disadvantages of carb (including what you'd get for selling off what you have now that you won't be using).

Again, just my opinion, but I'm fond of it. Mostly because it's based on facts and research, and not fantasy.

Somebody will probably come in and say, "I did it for only $xxx", but if you got the true accounting, I'm confident my position would hold up.

Re: ls1 carbed wiring question

you can get a crank spacer for the tranny, or buy a converter thats designed to be a 700/ls1 fitment.
you dont need to buy a harness. its just an extension harness.
you buy the edelbrock or the MSD box, and its got its own harness.
i highly recommend the msd unit. it has rev limiters, start retards, nitrous retards etc.

i dont think its a step back going carb at all.
my car was already set up for it. dropped the motor in, fired right up. no exspensive tuning, or injectors, or wiring issues. but all that is intimidating to me. id rather use a 5/8 and a flat head rather than a keyboard.
when i had a 3.70 gear in the car, i got 18mpg with no OD and it runs 6's.
cant ask much better out of a carb.

this is not a comparsion to efi, just my experience.
apples and oranges.

Re: ls1 carbed wiring question

i quite agreeid love to run efi on the car but being a 84 there is no computer on it now and not that much wireing to deal with. i personally think a ls1 swap would be fun and if im only paying $600 for the motor and assesories and another 600 to make it carbed or pay more for all of the fi parts and wiring. just trying to come up with ideas before i waste more money

Re: ls1 carbed wiring question

you can always add efi later on.
its not like a carb is a tattoo or anything.
