LT1 intake gasket

What intake gasket is everyone running?

Has anyone ever cut or opened up the ports on metal core intake gaskets. I have Felpro summit part number FPP-1284 Steel Core Laminate/ Printoseal, 2.04 in. x 1.25 in. Port, .060 in. Thick, LT1 Chevy. They do not fit my ported heads and intake as nice as I would like, but I am thinking to mod them with a dremel tool. What do you guys think, has anyone done this? The only other intake gaskets for an LT1 are the stock pressed junk ones.

Re: LT1 intake gasket

Never had a problem with these intake gaskets. They fit my ported heads and intake fine, they were close though.

I would think using a sharp utility knife on them would work fine if you marked them and took your time.

Re: LT1 intake gasket

I've used stock and aftermarket, never had any problems with either. Like J said, sharp utility knife or an Xacto knife should take care of it. shouldn't need much opening up.

Port matching when porting heads or intake is usually done using an intake gasket as a template.

Who ported these heads? Use the gaskets whoever ported the heads & intake used. If that's not possible, they screwed up the heads & intake.

Re: LT1 intake gasket

The heads and intake were port matched with stock style gaskets. I went to the performance type and now they are a little off. I practiced on my old gaskets with a razor blade but I can not get through the metal core. I am going to use a dremel tool with a carbide bit.

Re: LT1 intake gasket

how much trimming are you talking about here? and why not use the "stock style" gasket?

Re: LT1 intake gasket

Maybe a 1/16" or so, not much but I want to ensure no flow is ubstructed. The guy that built the botom half of my motor said to not use the stock pressed style gaskets.

I also wish I could see how well my intake ports align with the head ports, but it not like a carbed intake where you can see down with a flash light. I had some material taken off the block and I am thinking maybe some material also needs milled off the intake to match but I doubt it, but I would still like to check.

Re: LT1 intake gasket

Anyone have any idea what gaskets are usually used? I have a _stock_ LT1 intake manifold that has larger openings (mostly the bottom edge, but even if I pull the gasket down from it's correct position and center it the opening is taller than the opening in the gasket) than the stock gasket.
