I want to put a lt1 in my 86 iroc. my current engine just lost oil presure. It had lots of problems as is. I want to put a newer and more reliable moter in the car. can i use the 4l60e the lt1s came with? could I still use the 700r4? I want to know how hard the swap would be. (wiring, mounting issues,etc)Any info is helpful.

 

The engine drops right in and bolts up, the trans should too although I used my T-5. Wiring isnt too bad if you have a little patience, and no how.
I ran 13.2 @106 with the hot cam kit and full exhaust installed, that was with street tires and sloppy stock suspension.

 

Im anxious to find out also. Ive got my engine, but it needs a rebuild. So itll go in as a 355, with at least forged pistons (doesnt help, I know). Im going to try and add a locker, and gear (3.73), and weld the axle tubes. But no cam, no RRs, and only a 3" exhaust.

Im hoping for 13.7s. If not, Ill have to run up the credit card for a nitrous kit.

 

You will need a controller for the 4L60E but otherwise yes.

 

I believe the 4L60e will work with the LT1 seemlessly, as long as you use the LT1 ecm. If you keep the 700r, you need to change some things. And if you try and use the 4L60e without the ECM that runs the LT1 (or LS1), you need a controller.

I had bad luck with my 4l60e but that was probably just Murphy working against me..it did work fine with all the computer controls until the boom occured.

with a stock internal engine and all the bolt-ons with a t56 the car went 13.4@104 with no special prep with a 3,375lb no-driver weight.

It is much faster now but I don't ever take it to the track.

 

I went 12.74@114 with my old hotcam and Le head combo. I haven't gotten any times with the Ai topend yet.

I am doing a swap like this too...how much work do you think it will take to get a 3250 pound car(with driver) and LT1 into he mid-low 11s? That is my goal, a good handling 11 seconf car...
i will be happy with a stock LT1 i am sure, for the moment...considering mine has a tired 2.8 in it...

 

If I ever get all the bugs worked out of my current head and cam set up. I should be somewhere in the mid 11s traps should be 118-120 Hopefully I will find out for sure before the end of the summer.

My buddy ran 13.15 @ 108 with his '88 IROC, on drag radials with a 170k mile LT1, longtubes, 3.5" y-pipe, 4" single exhaust, XR1 race muffler, 6spd, tubular k-member, tubular control arms, and 3.73's in a 4th gen rear.

Some of y'all are really moving with just a cam and on street tires, what's the weight of your vehicles? His tipped the scales at 3315 with him in it, and he weighs 160lbs.

 

I ran a best of 12.89 @ 109.7 with a Hotcam and LT4 heads. that was almost 4 years ago now.
