coolant temp sensor problem
ok i have had my ls1 in my car for about 2 years now and i have been running aftermarket gauges for coolant and oil. my question is this. for the coolant gauge on my ipc all i need is the temp sensor that is a 1 wire sensor for the gauge off my old 305tbi. will that thread right in to the ls1 heads?

Re: coolant temp sensor problem
no it won't. The LS1 heads use a metric thread and your standard sensor uses an SAE thread. I understand that autometer sells the adapters for that but not sure which one it is. I've seen it here in other threads and also at LS1tech.com as well. I bought autometer gages for my 92 as well but the more I think about it I may just stick with the stock stuff in mine as well(even the tach) and get a shift light to put in the A/C vents to make it cleaner.

Re: coolant temp sensor problem
to get around the thread problem, there's a couple guys on ls1tech that use whatever stock temp sensor they had, and tap the heater hose lines (some of them even tap the water pump housing instead).

Re: coolant temp sensor problem
i had my factory sensor for a 305 tbi milled down to correct size and then threaded it for the LS1 head. works great.
