To swap or not to swap
Ok, I have I belive a 5.3L out of a 2000 Silverado, none of the electronics or wiring is on it. My dad did a swap out for a guy awhile back the engine is just sitting there. Now, I have a stock 92 RS w/ a 305 TBI auto 200k+ miles. I want to try to do this as cheaply as possible b/c I got college and a baby on the way. The other problem is that the car is my daily driver. I would like to re-use as much as possible from my car and I can do all the work to the engine and car myself. I'm from a family of hot rodders, so mechanic work is nothing to me and I'm the computer person in the family. Thanks for any thoughts and advice in advance.

Harness, computer, intake, accessories and mounts..... it would be more fun and efficient then that 305. Should be rated around 285-295 hp. Just do a search on here and you find everything you need to know. It can get a little expensive, but people really think better of their cars after.

Yeah, talked to my dad and he said I could have the engine, just need some clean up and it'll be good to go. Gonna buy parts slowly and put it in when I have all that I need.

It's an LSx-style engine (which is why this thread is now in that sub-forum).
Read the LSx sticky in the top section of the forum. As you will see, it is a fairly involved swap. Not that it isn't worth it, but the time and expense in doing it to a daily driver might skew the final decision.
Out of curiosity, why was the engine taken out?

Yeah, sry bout that. Didn't notice that until after I posted. Been reading up on it all day and it actually doesn't look to be that involved. Might even be able to do it for less than $1k. The truck owner thought it was knocking and just bought a used replacement and paid my dad to change it and left the old one. It has some sludge build up inside, easy to clean out and just replace the oil pump. Gonna check everything out just to be sure tho.

Re: To swap or not to swap
also, fuel rails, most of the injectors, some of the wiring(uncut stuff), water pump, crank balancer, crank pulley, most sensors, and exaust manifolds on still with the enigine. Figure I'll mock up a y pipe and have my dad do all the welding needed incl. motor mounts. Will need to get the 4th gen stuff, but checked on LStech for pricing. Also, luckily Thunder racing is like a 15 min drive for me.
