Corvette AC bracket
This is my first post on here, i've searched and found some saying they dont fit some saying they might fit. Has anyone done an LS1 swap and used Corvette accesories including the AC compressor? Im thinking of doing the swap and tearing apart my perfectly good 98 forged bottom end/heads/cam/nitrous car and putting everything into a third gen. The Major reason for the swap is I want a Kenne Bell 2.6 on it and thats not happening with the cowl. I want to do vette accesories so i can get the kenne bell on with out to much of a hassle. Ill do a tubular k-member if needed but i want air conditiong in this one cause i've already tore it out of the 98 and it kind've sucks living in Phoenix with no AC. thx in advance

I'm hoping some members with experience chime in on this too as I have recently picked up an LS1 with all of the front Vette accessorries. It would be nice if they fit and would drop right in like the F Body....otherwise will have to switch everything out for the FBody front accessories which includes the crank pully.
Come on thirdgen knowlege base...somebody has had to drop a LS1 take out motor from a C5 into a thirdgen????

In the sticky up top it says some have used the Corvette setup, but it does not fit as well as the F-car setup. No particulars.
I will be interested to hear how you do. I have an LS1 from a C5 sitting in my garage. Maybe next Spring I will tackle the project.

I have the Y-body accessories in my car. The A/C compressor does not fit. I'm using the spohn k-member and the clearence issue is right where the A-Arm bolts to the K-member. So I have to assume that you would have the same issue with the stock kmember. The Ybody compressor sits further back then the f-body compressor. I bought an f-body bracket and compressor but the pully didn't line up with the Y-body balancer.
At this point if i decide that i want to put the A/C in i will have to get an aftermarket bracket or just switch to the F-body accessories.

Thanks for confirming this as I plan on either re-using the stock AC unit which would place the AC unit up high and would not require modification with either the stock k member or the aftermarket spohn. In fact there is another company on Ebay that sells a AC relocation bracket that works with the Corvette accessories that relocates the stock LS1 AC compressor up top as well...both of these options (Superpowers's bracket for stock & Ebay for LS1) eliminate the need for a Spohn crossmember or modification to the stock K member. My motor will be here next week and I am just rounding up the rest of the parts...I may even buy a spare stock K member so that I can simply drop the stock TPI motor out and leave it as it sits in the K member....have to put it on a dolly so I can wheel it around if it is in the way in my shop.

I'll have to look into these brackets. I would like to keep the fuel rail covers and will need to make sure these work with them. Also i ran my heater hoses straight up from the pump and under the fuel rail cover. So i would need to make sure the compressor/bracket doesn't get in the way of these. I'll save that link. Thanks.

Yeah no problem. Just do me a favor and if you decide to go forward as you appear to be further along then me...to post up and let me know how it works. Superpowers has reported that his brackets work and I have corresponded with the Kwik company about their LS1 AC relocate.
I am looking for the cleanest install possible as I want it to look factory. I appreciate you sharing info about the Y body accessories as there were few replies and the ones that did were not as convincing as I had hoped. You have identified specific fitment areas that can be resolved with the brackets listed here.
The difference between our cars is that one is a Camaro and the other a Firebird. I have to assume that there is no difference in the steering rack though. Did you have any fitment issues on the drivers side or around the steering rack using the Y Body accessories...one person mentioned that it might bump into the powersteering rack????

I did not use the vette rack and pinion if thats what your referring too. But i had no clearance issues with my stock steering linkage. Really i think the only difference between the Y and F accessories is the alternator. The water pump and power steering pump are in the same places from what i can tell. They might just sit a little closer to the engine like the a/c compressor did.

No I was not referring to the Y body rack and pinion. Somebody had commented on another thread that using an LS1 with Y body accessories, that the powersteering pump might come too close to the 3rd Gen steering column or rack. It looks like you didn't have any problems.
Please confirm.
You install looks great...you haven't hooked up the AC yet right?
Looks like your fuel rail cross over tube got bent. Not sure I could live with that considering it feeds the whole other side of the motor.

Now that i think of it something did come in contact with the plastic cover that is over top of the steering shaft. But since the cover doesn't spin and it wasn't pushing into the steering shaft we left it be.
I'm not sure that the fuel rail is bent. I just googled corvette ls1 and i could see that they are bent on those too. But my pics do make the bend look pretty dramatic. I'll have to check it out and make sure it's ok...
You gotta bare with me. This project has been going on now for about 4-5 years. The car is at my dad's which is about 2 hours away from me. So far this year I've worked on the car 5 or 6 times at most. So if i sound unsure about any answers that's why.
