LS truck pan

Anyone know how low the truck pan hangs? It looks like it wouldnt be too bad...if it was on a SBC, i want the easies way to go price wise but it seems impossible to find a good pan for a decent price, the f body pans are not cheap and the CTSV is ridiculous.

Can the truck pan be chopped and re welded since it is aluminum or what?

Re: LS truck pan

I've seen aluminum pans being welded when they have cracks so I don't see why and also the pan will fit into the 3rd gen but the problem is that it hangs about two inches below the cross member.

Re: LS truck pan

Ok, so if i could get 2 inches removed, i am sure i would be screwing with the amount of oil i should have as well, so probably a bad idea on that part.

Re: LS truck pan

I was going this way, but now that the engine is in the car, the pan hangs about 3.5" too low. And even if you chop 2" off it, you have 2 new problems to resolve. (1) you lose too much capacity, so you have to add kickouts, which might create problems with exhaust fitment, the starter, and so on. (2) You then have to re-figure the issues of the pick-up tube and the dipstick. All these issues combined more than justify buying the proper pan, pick-up (suction) tube, dipstick, windage tray and dipstick tube. You may even find a used set at a good price if you don't have to have it right this second. That's the route I'm now going, so you may even end up bidding against me.
