I've got two sets of wheels, the ones on the white car are the 15" IROCs, or I have the 16" '91/'92 alloys also.
Jon, I didn't know '89 was a year of its own, I'm thinking we're going to use the dash from the white parts car so I'll probably snag the engine harness too and send that to you when the time comes.

I already got a shipping quote for those for a guy that lives over in your region of the country, so I already know what it would cost to ship them. If you want them, you can have them for $285 shipped.

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
Did some more work today. We tackled the doors today, man that was a job haha! We got them lined up perfectly though, the gaps are better than they were when he bought the car. We also started putting the interior back in it (donated from the teal '91 RS parts car), starting with the hatch area. He's going to be getting some carpet ordered and get the headliner and sun visors re-upholstered and then we'll start throwing the seats and the rest of the interior back in it. Then it's on to the dash, we're taking the dash completely out of this car and replacing it with one of the dashes from our parts cars because this car has cut wires all up under the dash from when the previous owner made it a "race car".

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
Thanks, we didn't use any media blasting, just a lot and lot of sanding. We used some long (12" I would say) rubber sanding blocks on the bigger parts like the roof and doors and hood.
Check out the destruction!! We took the white parts car to the scrap yard and got $96.25 lol. My friends and I took a few whacks at it with a sledge hammer first though. And look how we got it on the trailer, the strap was hooked up to a truck and the trailer was just blocked with firewood on the driveway. Having no rear axle makes loading a car on a trailer a bit more difficult.

This was how thick the bondo was on the driver side quarter panel.

And we couldn't get the bolts off the lower control arms when we removed the 10 bolt, so we decided to cut the bolts out of the rubber bushings. This is how we got to them with a saw lol

Yea I can probably do that. The rotors look pretty rusty though, are you just wanting them to grind down to use for the LS1 brake swap? I don't think I would use them for a stock setup

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
Sorry yea I still have them on the car. The plan is to take everything off that we still want and scrap the thing maybe this weekend or next week some time. Don't worry though, I remembered that I need to take the spindles and rotors off for you. It might be a week and a half before I can get them ready for shipping though as I have a lot going on right now.
The reason I said I wouldn't use the rotors for a stock setup is because the meat on the discs are reallllllly rusty. It won't matter if you're doing the LS1 upgrade though because it will all get cut off.

Just a small update here. We installed brand new window sweeps (the outer trim that is at the top of the doors and goes along the window), painted all the other metal trim black and installed the door handles, locks, and weather stripping. The UPS man also came today with his new grey carpet!

Where did you get the window sweeps? Are they hard to install?

We got them from 1A Auto. They are kinda tricky to install but not too bad. We ended up drilling a few new holes inside the top of the doors because we couldn't get them all lines up right. It took about an hour for us to install both of them and it looks real sharp now.

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
I've been bouncing back and forth from working on my vert and working on dad's car. We got the carpet in and almost got it where we want it as far as fitment, still needs a little work. Then we'll have the seats re-upholstered and install the rest of the interior, from there the rest of the work is in the drivetrain.
We're trying to figure out what we're gonna do for a gas tank, the tank that's in it was sumped and has AN fittings out the bottom. I'm thinking it was setup for an external pump, but for the sake of having the fuel gauge working properly, we might pawn off the tank (should sell pretty easily with the work that was done to it), and put a stock tank in with a Walbro pump.

Actually I still have the teal parts car and I'm gonna take it to the scrap yard this weekend, I will try and get them off the car for you. The ones on the other car we had were impossible to get off.

Couldn't you still use the sumped tank? Just use an inline pump and block off the feeds outa the sender up top, the gauge should still work fine without an intank pump lol

Would you happen to have a front chin spoiler and ground effects for the Iroc that you'd be willing to sell? I need some, and I'm kinda torn between the 91-92 GFX and the Iroc GFX... but I think I'd prefer the Irocs. Thanks

Sorry I don't.
I don't have a price on the tank yet, it's still on the car. It may be a while before I get it out.

Major update:
My dad and u just went and looked at a '98 Z28 off of craigslist. He ended up buying it for $2,800. It's a high mileage car with a newly rebuilt 4L60E, has some title issues which helped us get it so cheap. It's going to get parted out anyways.

We would but there's a title issue. This guy bought it over a year ago, signed and dated the title but never registered it in his name, so he would have to pay a penalty fee and get it registered in his name (and in doing that, pass an inspection which it won't because his son chopped the brand new Borlaug exhaust off), and then we would have to get it transferred to my dads name. It's not worth the trouble and money to get it done, the penalties would cut away the profits and we would make more in the end by parting it out.

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
Update:
We painted the gas tank, and undercoated the whole car. We also painted the 4th gen 10 bolt, which has 4.10 gears which will be pretty fun to scoot around in. We put the Walbro fuel pump in the tank and got the tank and rear end in the car, and we just ordered the double hump transmission crossmember from Hawks. As soon as that comes in along with the wiring harness that Pocket re-pinned for us, we'll be putting the engine and trans in the car within the next 2 weeks.

That -98 up rear end is not a bad rear end to be a weak 10 bolt, since it got the best brakes with the internal drum parking/emergency brake instead of the stupid design crappy e-brake that are on the earlier ones. (Like the one I have out of a -96 Trans am) With 4:10 gears and normal street tires it should hold up OK too. At least if you put a TA girdle on it.

I'm really sorry I haven't yet. I am hoping to get into the garage and putz around on my car a little this weekend though so if I do, I will get the measurements for you. I've been too busy to even look at the car the last couple weeks since my wife and I moved into a new house at the beginning of the month.

Re: LSX Swap #2 - 1989 IROC-Z hardtop
The IROC-Z is at a friend's shop getting the drivetrain put in. My dad and I decided that with everything else going on and Christmas coming up, we wanted to have it installed by someone else than take the extra time and work a little here and there on weekends to get it done.
And in the meantime, I just dropped off the rest of the interior parts at an upholstery shop to get the headliner, rear speaker covers, sun visors, and driver seat reupholstered and get the new window sweeps from 1A Auto installed on the brand new door panels we got for it. I can't wait to get the inside of the car buttoned up!
