My LSx build update
Ok, its been long enough. Time for a big update!
I have all the parts needed to make this thing yell. I still need to finish wiring here and there but the "make it run" part is covered.
First thing, I cant thank Stainless Works enough for such a good fitting header. They easily went in from the top WITH the damn STB still installed... clearance is awesome. Its not touching anything, anywhere. It literally took me 20 mins to install them and torque the bolts. All the spark plugs are accessible with the torque wrench. Day and night diffrence with my old L98 w/shorties. I will get them ceramic coated once the engine runs and is tuned.
The radiator is more than I expected too. The first test fit in the car blown me away. Its the 1st time I see an aftermarket radiator for the 3rd gens actually fitting. No banging on the frame rails or cutting the rad mounts. This is truly a direct install. Its a 3 row core from Champion cooling fully tig welded. I still need to put it in the car and do the final install. I also personalized it a bit.

I also received my gauges. I went with the Phantom II serie from Autometer. They are installed in a Covan Classic gauge trim. The 3 pod pillar is from Speedhut... Ill see how this fits later, hopefully better then the autometer pillar. All the sensors are installed on the engine. I have to do all the wiring for the gauges tho. I know Autometer is coming soon with a wideband Phantom II gauge, Ill add it later. The idiot lighs are from Painless. Green for flashers, blue for high beams and reds for brakes and SES.

I fabbed my Cold air intake. Used 4" pieces and piping. Relocated the air filter in the passenger fender, in front of the wheel. I also relocated the IAT as far as I could from the engine. Im very pleased with the finished look. Im probably gonna send the middle pipe for ceramic coating when I send in the headers.
Gas, brake and clutch pedals are all installed and working. I have to finish the front brake lines and the master cylinder lines. Horns are in too.

What to do this week:
Go get a jug full of gas.
Double check fuel lines.
Double check wiring.
Double check all the torqued bolts on the engine.
Install gauges.
And hmmm... oh yeah. Put oil in engine before firing.
Stay tuned for a video pretty damn soon.
I was limited at 5 pictures here. More pics in my thread on ls1tech called "My 3rd gen IROC swap".

That might be the cleanest swap I have seen yet (no offense to anyone else here). Also that radiator looks great, how much does that run if you don't mind me asking.

Re: My LSx build update
Just for you dude. Sorry about the shitty quality... I need to invest in a new camera. Wiring a complete cluster is a pita. I think it looks bad *** tho, well worth the 3-4 hours sorting out wires. I installed 2 connectors to allow easy removal and installation. 1 for the power and grounds, the other for the sensor signals and idiot lights. I didnt fire the engine with the cluster connected yet. It should be working great tho *crosses fingers*

Re: My LSx build update
I would love to do my gauges like that, just not sure how to wire everything in and reuse my fuel level and voltage, like what wires from the original harness would go where.

Re: My LSx build update
My hat goes off to you. I do believe you have built a finer white third gen than any I have seen yet. Theres one in Michigan thats also very sweet Im sure you've seen his build thread kicking around. You two guys have the cleanest and finest built show cars to date that I've ever seen. In fact your build rivals Kandiedz car in terms of overall clean appeal.
My paint is ten years old now and although I keep it very clean and tight it has some blems and the wheels are also ten years old so Im in need of a freshening in the next five years or so. For now Im still on the quest for power and delving into new tech with the VVT and whatnot. I think Im going to post a play by play with pics on my new engine build when i get onto it.
Regardless that car is amazing Spike. Big congrats man

Cam buddy, that almost bring a tear to my eye

It was a very long road but at least it came out exactly the way I wanted. I did not wanted to get into debt doing this, with the house, kids, so it took the time it took. I got depressed a couple of times in the last 5 years thinking I would never get thru this. Im very happy its almost over. lol ( we all no its never over)
I love the fact that youre one of the pioneers opening the way using new technologies. Youll get done with that VVT engine, might get time but Im positive youll get thru that no in the blink of an eye. If I can ever assist you with anything, count on me, I owe you one.
As far as freshing goes, we all need one one day or another. Whats cool one year isnt cool the year after. You just got to jump in the bandwagon once in a while. At least when these cars are well taken car of, they will look and drive good for decades to come.

Re: My LSx build update
Yeah I hear that. The hardest thing is to just keep plugging away when these projects drag on seemingly with no end in sight. Or even worse when you have to leave it for a month or two than go back to start working and your thinking "What was I trying to do here again?" Usually takes a day or two just to get your head back to where you left off! That can be disheartening but you stuck it out and the proof is in the pudding as they say.
Anyways again killer build man I hope to see it in person one day.
