got a million ideas and i need some advice/guidance..

ok ive had some ideas floating around for a while and im looking for some help. first off im 19 im in automotive school for about another year so this is all future plans.

im wanting to do an LSX TT swap in my 89 rs (305 tbi 700r4). right now im at a delima. im not sure what LSX to go with. i like the idea of an alumnium block but is that the best option? (im shooting for 500-600 RWHP) ive been trying to decide between an LS1 or an LS2. i want a 6 speed car and ive decided to go with a ford 9'' rearend. ive looked at spohn and i like their k-member and their coil over kit so i was thinkin about goin with that it seems pretty painless to install and its a pretty good price too. also i want a remote mount turbo setup. (sts is only about an hour away from where i live so maybe they could help me) another problem i ran into is the fuel delivery and which ecm to use. i know that im going to have to upgrade the internals of the engine to forged, but what about the valve train?? im completely clueless on what to do with the valve train.... then it comes to the tranny and rearend. am i gunna have to beef up the tranny?? what gears do i use?? (im shooting for mostly torque but i still want to drive this thing down the hwy) i have no idea on where to start and i need a shove in the right direction. thanks for any input. all ideas will be considered.

Re: got a million ideas and i need some advice/guidance..

Holy lotta questions here.

Congrat's on being 19, in automotive school and havin lots of plans! Im in the exact same boat, cept im transfering to a university out west next year for mechatronics (19 also)

First, if you only are shooting for 5-600rwhp, a rear mount is fine, and so is a stock shortblock. Ive got over 660rwhp out of a stock LS2 shortblock w/ D-1SC blower.

For the power level your thinking of, a stock shortblock will withstand the power without any problems, just get one thats in decent shape. Valvetrain wise, you will want a pretty stout valvetrain, due to the fact that you've got a positive pressure against the valves. That means some good dual valve springs, chromoly pushrods, double timing chain etc.

Your power levels arent anything earth shattering for LSx's and they will support that power with ease in a forced induction setup. For fuel system, you could get away with a 255LPH pump with say a MSD Boost-a-pump, or if you really want to have a fuel system that can support alot, you could run twin inline fuel pump's, but at that point things get alot more complicated.

For the computer, any 99-04 Gen3 computer will work, they all function exactly the same, and will support more power then your ever going to get outt'a a STS system.

As for a transmission, if you want to stay M6, you've gotta concider a couple things. Is it a street car? If so, and you want it to drive nice, and make 5-600rwhp, be looking for a twin disk clutch like a Zoom D2, spec twin, or McLeod street twin, any of these will give you holding power and drivability.
Inside the trans you want it beefier then stock parts. At the bare min, billet syncro key's, upgraded springs, Carbon Kevlar blocker rings, steel shift fork, bronze fork pads, new 1-2 & 3-4 syncro's etc. This will withstand approx 700ftlb. Same setup im building in my T56.

For differential, a 9", or S60 would be your best options, both will handle M6 thrashing on them. Make sure you've got a super strong driveshaft, definately not a part you want spinning out of control at 6000rpm.

Ive got alot of experience with forced induction LS series motors, ive build 20+ car's that made between 800 & 1200rwhp, done plenty of mid hp level builds too (5-7xxrwhp), so if you've got any questions, feel free to ask
