Lt1 swap questions
My L03 in the 88 took a dump during the summer. I've finally secured the funds for a full swap, but I really want to ask around before I jump in and buy a **** LT1 engine. I guess the first thing i want to know is which parts other than the engine will be needed for this swap. Should a tranny swap be performed as well?
I'm a pretty big novice when it comes to mechanics and the intricacies of engines. Could a novice do this swap and be happy with the decision a couple years down the road, when a poor swap will begin to show?
I'll take any advice I can get. I'm also in the market for a strong LT1; so if you have one, let me know your price.
Thanks all
is this a good deal?

Re: Lt1 swap questions
If you can find a strong LT1/transmission together for a good price (that comes w/ everything and works) The swap might not be that painful. Maybe have a couple buddies help you that are a bit more mechanically inclined and read up on all the stickies posted in this board. Do things right, take your time, and mark all your old wires that you disconnect from the old motor and you should be well on your way.
But other than the motor/tranny.... i would start to look for a rear end and possibly some sub frame connectors to stiffen your uni body up.

Re: Lt1 swap questions
Other than a fresh set of headers and tubes is there anything else that needs to be swapped out of the L03 setup for an LT1 ready set-up. Like a new radiator or something like that.
Also, the 88 is an auto, so would installing a 6-speed be too challenging? Hell, is this entire operation too challenging for a novice? I really don't want to get all of the equipment and then royally **** up.

Re: Lt1 swap questions
You would also need to swap the fuel pump, grab a set of TPI hard lines from the tank (not for sure if the pickup is the same) to make the fuel lines easiest to swap
6-speed isn't bad to do, have to buy a crossmember to mount it, can reuse the stock driveshaft, there is plenty in this section that covers just about every question you can have.

Oddly enough, TBI cars used the same sender as the high pressure V6/TPI cars, even though they had similar pressure to the carb cars. A new pump is a must over the TBI unit, LT1s use the same pressure as V6/TPI cars. OEM 3rd gen, LT1, or walbro 255 will work
