just a quick simple question for all the experts here...

Just bought the LQ9 cast iron block off of sdparts.com and it has to sit for a year while i am overseas. it will be inside of a non-climate controlled garage. is this enough to prevent rust or do i need to do something more to ensure that it will be 100% ready to build when i return home?

Wrap it with a big trashbag and duct tape

That, and wipe some really thick motor oil on the cylinder walls. You don't want those getting any kind of surface rust on them.

I'd put some of that oil on ALL machined surfaces, not just the cylinder bores.

You may even want to go to something thicker like a bearing grease to ensure that it stays there, even if it comes in contact with some moisture. I've never seen a roof leak at a good time.

I like fogging spray it sticks well and is much easier to remove when your ready. Its also known as storage spray and was designed for two strokes but it works great for these purposes too. Its because it sticks and its a spray that i like it so much. Very fast, handy and effective

Any chance of just returning it & getting one again, when you get back?
