More questions please help.
Ok guys I got a few questions....
Thanks Tim
- What swap is better for the money and easier LT1/LS1?
- Is there other engines I should consider?
- If you go on the hawks website they have a section for LSx swap stuff, If I were to do the LS1 swap do I really need all the parts they listed? Or can I pass on a few of them?
Thanks Tim

1.) LT1 is cheaper, LS1 makes more power per mod $.
2.) 6.0L GM truck engine is a great alternative, check into it.
3.) No clue what is on Hawks website. Research and you'll find out.
Re: More questions please help.
1) LTx, but just barely. You can retain the SBC motor mounts and exhaust, but nearly everything that would change with the LSx swap will change with the LTx. Trans mount, fuel system, electrical, gauges, PCM etc all must be updated
2) B-body LTx, even the 4.3L L99 and truck LSx engines are great alternatives for minimal cost. LKQ sells 5.3L's for around $350 with a warranty. Not something to sneeze at. Last 2 B-body LT1s Ive pulled from the local yard set me back $200 and $150
3) Hawks is the only place to get swap long tube headers. Nearly ALL of the rest is easily had elsewhere for cheaper, or in the case of the fuel lines you can assemble your own from AN fittings for about half the cost of their short lines

And in my third question I meant do I NEED all the items they listed not if I should buy from them Im not sure if I really need all those parts or can skip on a few..
thanks tim
Re: More questions please help.
Engine components, No. That stuff can be OEM 3rd or 4th gen parts
Exhaust, no. Manifolds can be used or SBC LTs modified. Your front exhaust and Y-pipe must be redone though
Fuel needs to be updated
Mounts, you need some form of conversion front mount. Both the LS1 Fbody fabbed stand and the SBC adapter plates work, depending on your goals
Suspension, no. Your stock suspension will be fine although you may need to lower the front from all the weight removed with the aluminum engine
Trans stuff, no
Wiring, yes. Ive posted several threads for DIY wiring. Post up or PM me if you get stuck or dont want to do it

What do you mean adapter plates and conversionfont mounts? Ill ask later about the wiring when I get that far, and how does my y-pipe and front exhaust have to be redone?
thanks tim
Re: More questions please help.
Mounts secure the engine to the K-member
There are 2 schools of thought:
Use the LS1 engine side mount and use an aftermarket mount to attach it to the K-member
Option 2 is a bit cheaper but gives up realestate for the AC compressor. Use a flat piece of stock with holes drilled in certain locations to use the 3rd gen V8 K-member mounts and engine mounts
LSx swaps need a complete front exhaust overhaul. First, look how the 3rd gen routing goes under the pan and out toward the pass side. LSx engines use a larger cast pan with a 360* bellhousing. There is no room for a crossover so a custom longtube style exhaust must be used, regardless of headers or manifolds. Even if you could reuse the 3rd gen exhaust, it would choke the motor. Stock was 2.25 or 2.5" double walled crush bent tubing. Way to small for even the stock engines
You can reuse the exhaust system for a LT1 swap, but the restriction will still be there
